Question:

Ideas for a craft club?

I am in a craft club that helps the partially sighted or blind make things to sell to raise money for them to buy things that will make life at home easier, like watches where you can feel the time.

I need some ideas. Something that is not to expensive to make, it doesn't really matter if you think its too hard for a blind person to make, you'd be surprised what these people can do. We've already done like lace tissue boxes and teddies and wrapped-up soap and customised spoons and a waste paper bin and sweet-smelling jars and egg cosies and stockings and sponges shaped like all sorts of things and, of course, CARDS which are the obvious thing to make but oh, so very boring!

So...any more ideas? Remember these are things to sell, mainly to middle aged women. But also many other ages.

  1. You could try friendship bracelets, kids always like to buy those.

For middle aged women, you could try making bookmarks perhaps? Or cushion covers, or place-mats maybe.

  2. Melt Crayons and make them into candles. (:

  3. There are a whole bunch of ideas for things the blind and low-vision can make from polymer clay on this page at my site:

    http://glassattic.com/polymer/disabiliti...

...click on the category called EYESIGHT, then check out all the subcategories beneath that.

Some could be made with other clays as well, even the cheaper salt dough clays or bread clay.

That section *also* has links to other sites that have crafts the blind and low-vison can make that are unrelated to polymer clay.

Best of luck, and thanks for what you're doing!

  6. Crotcheted slippers - im not old, but theyre welcome in the evenings to slip on and put your feet up on the settee, also to wear in bed when youre feeling poorly.

Id like to have the time to make them for our local hospital as we have many elderly patients in need of them.
