In keeping with the religion focus from "Beyond", you might look into the "cargo cults" of the South Pacific after WW-II.  There are implications for the role of myth and religion in a culture when that culture suddenly comes in contact with another that appears to have supernatural abilities.

Or in other words the influence of Catholicism on women's rights of inheritance; matrilineal vs patrilineal. How it changed and why and the effect on women today.
