Ideas for a "Set the Table" Wedding shower?

I volunteered to throw a wedding shower for my friend and she would like to have a "Set the Table" shower- most of the gifts would be centered around her casual and elegant china sets. But what should I do for the actual shower- table settings? games? foods? decorations? that would go along with this theme? I can't find any examples on the internet with ideas....

  1. The theme would depend what type of entertaining the bride likes to do:  casual, outdoor, or formal.   If it's outdoor entertaining, places like Hobby Lobby or Bed,Bath & Beyond or Linen & Things have their bright, summer plastic tableware out now.  That would be fairly inexpensive to get, and then the bride could take them home (washed, of course).  You could decorate with outdoor serving buckets, or mesh baskets, and whatever else they have that bright & colorful for an outdoor BBQ .....    If she likes to entertain formally, get some inexpensive chargers for the place settings; pretty napkin rings; placecard holders, and wine charms.  Lots of flowers in colors to match the wedding, or her china pattern  .....

......   Have each guest bring their favorite recipe, and get a notebook or box for her to keep them in .....    There's always that old standby game of putting about 20 items on a tray (kitchen related), letting the guests look at it for a minute or so; then they have to write down what they remember was on the tray.  The one with the most right answers, wins

  2. For centerpieces you could take some simple glass vases or white pitchers and have some flowering branches sticking out.  It can be simple, and you should be able to find some branches that are less expensive than cut flowers.  You could also have some simple cut flowers instead.  For color scheme you can have white or cream and then one or two accent colors (If any of the china has any color, that could be your accent color.) or use the bride's wedding colors.  As far as games, I would stick with some traditional shower games and not necessarily worry about the "theme".  Google bridal shower games and you'll find tons of ideas.

    Good luck!

  3. I've never heard of such a thing...

the shower should reflect the style of the bride-to-be. what does she like? seashells, the ocean, music, pink, etc?

For instance - If she loves the ocean then make it a beach theme party.

scatter shells everywhere, have little paper sailboats as place settings and lifesavers as the candy. Use glass vases with blue marbles as the centerpieces with fresh flowers or floating candles. I've seen beta fish used before, to tie in the whole "sea" theme.

give out miniature beach pails as favors, filled with chocolate shells.

    look at these: http://www.beau-coup.com/nautical_themed...

You could make it a tea party theme... a black and white theme... all kinds of stuff!

There are so many things you could do, but you need to first make a list of her favorite things and create the party FOR her.

Food... that's tough. Is it a catered function, what time of day, where?
