I'm her grandma. I give her lots of books. We have loved collecting Little People but I think she may be outgrowing them. I'm looking for something she might want to spend some time with and probably play with alone.

  1. one of my favorite gifts to give to both boys and girls of ages from 3-8 or 9 is an art pack.

I begin with a fishing tackle type box and in the sections of the top I put in things like small rulers, stickers, roll of tape, colored pencils, pens/pencils, scissors, paper clips, and other assorted supplies. In the bottom or larger section I place things like various sizes of markers, crayons, notepads, other drawing tools like stencils . And then I decorate the outside with the childs name, and stickers.

then in another bag or briefcase(even the paper or cloth ones work well--and the child feels like a grownup when they use it. Inside I place things like assorted types of paper, colored(get good quality) drawing paper (get a few different types some for markers, some just for pencils, and some for painting) and maybe add an idea book or two (but no coloring books)

All of these ideas should also be based on the age of the child. and should be used with adult supervision until you are sure the child will use them correctly and safely.

I have been told fequently that these are sometimes the favorite gift that a child has recieved at a bithday party...it allows them to explore different types of art mediums and gives them good self esteem about their work and encourages them to take care of their things.

My own children also recieved similar gifts from me and always bring them up when they talk about gifts they have enjoyed the most....my youngest hated having to give up her "box" when she went to college--it had been with her since she was about 8 and she kept all of her "special" art supplies in it and hid her favorite pens and pencils in it to keep them from her sister.

  2. By Little People do you mean playmobile or something like Sylvanian Families/?  She shouldn't grow out of imaginary play for a long time.  My daughter had Sylvanian Families with the canal boat and the school and played with it until she was about 8 yrs.  My grandson is now 8 and has just had the playmobile castle for his birthday and spends hours playing with it by himself.  Don't go for computer/high tech stuff it might seem educational but it stunts their emotional growth and stops them using their imagination.

  3. I bought my 4 yr old a V-Tech game system. They come with lots of really neat games. They also teach a wide variety of things from better eye hand coordination to number, color, and shape recognition. I love it!

  4. American Girl books and dolls or Art Supplies...

  5. Leapfrog Leapster, or any Leapfrog Learning Resources

  6. get her like a cabbage patch doll...one that looks like her. if u thnk she's too old for those (which i don't think so) then maybe go for  an american girl doll and some clothes for it.

also, four year olds like strollers to push dolls around in.

  7. At the age of four shes probably getting really into dolls, Ask her mother if she has any or wants any. Then for future gifts you could buy clothes for the doll

Young girls become really attatched to dolls, i think it would be an ideal gift at her age.

Some popular dolls at the moment include baby born and chou chou.

Trust me, i work selling dolls clothes and know all the dolls and how fussy the kids are but its worth it to see the smiles on their little faces :]

  8. buy her some lego's, she should be able to grow into them, try the 4+ age one he pieces are made for just that age.

this is perfect for my nephew who's four and lego's are pretty unisex.

  9. The handheld leapster games are great fun for her age and very educational.

  10. My niece loves to play dressup. I ended up sewing her a whole box of things she could wear. A cape, a gown. I got her a crown that was extremely durable and I could decorate. I bought that same slip on sandals and decorated them in different colors. Anything I thought she would dress up in, I made for her.

  11. Games like Candyland, Chutes and Ladders, and Memory are always good bets.  Art supplies are also very good bets, as are musical instruments.  In my opinion a great idea would be to take her into a music store and see if theres an instrument that perks her interest, if she find one, buy it and see about music teachers in your area and sign her up for some childrens lessons.  Music lessons can be pricey though, but if you can afford it, music is great!

  12. barbies or legos are the best gift to give a 4 year old

  13. Light Brite FX---it spins and she adds paint to it and a picture develops.

  14. A lovely gift would be a dog. That'll keep her BUSY.

Games would be cool, like Candyland or something.Go to WalMart to get fresh ideas. You'll

be suprised about what you can find there.

  15. Pinky st are a great and different sort of doll for a little girl. They're about 4 inches tall, and they exercise a child's imagination because you can mix and match to make different characters.

  16. Keep that Educational Trend Going... Try one of those Video games by Leap Frog. Even the Vtech game is good.

She's learning playing alone- or not if she has company and is reassured on how smart she is!!

  17. Two toys that absolutely fascinated me were an Ant Farm and a little garden in a tray. The Ant Farm was great; always interesting to watch and the garden was a heavy cardboard tray, a few inches deep, that came with vermiculite, a light growing compound, and grass seeds. When the grass began to grow I was over the Moon with excitement. I made a little pond using a tiny piece of mirror. There was a ceramic bridge, little house, figures and a little bench. My own little world. I think it was my favorite toy of all the ones I had because it was alive.
