Would like to go on the train today to somewhere quite rural but not too long a journey, say up to an hour, any ideas please?

Thanks.

  1. try Faversham or Whitstable in Kent ... both small towns with a lot of charm and history

  2. Does it have to be from Victoria train station? You can catch the Oxford Tube (called the Tube but actually a bus) which for less than any of the National Express train tickets will take you round trip from London to Oxford in about 40 min to an hour.  You can catch the bus near Victoria, or at a number of other stops in London including Notting Hill Gate.  You can buy your ticket on the bus and it runs every 10 minutes 24 hours a day.

Oxford is gorgeous, well suited to tourists with a number of fantastic museums and really feels like you're out in the country even less than an hour from London.  If you do go, I recommend the History of Science and Ashmolean Museums, the Castle Mound Museum and make sure you head to the top of the tower that overlooks the Radcliffe Camera.

    Enjoy the trip!

  3. Try Kew Gardens, not exactly rural but its a great day out, cheap and easy to get to!!
