i am making a scuba tank thing for my pool. i dont know how to explain this so i will try my best. i took 4 folgers cans. in the first 2 cans i cut a hole in the right sides and bottoms. in the second two i cut a hole in the left side. on the fourth can i cut a hole in the bottom and put a straw in it. there was still enough room for water to replace the used air. i conected straws untill it reached my mouth then i super glued straps on to hold it on my back. i super glued bricks on to the side of the air tank to hold it down. it should provide me with some extra air under water. i havent tried it yet. i need suggestions or ideas

  1. My suggestion is don't do it. At the very least you are going to get a breath full of water, and the worst you will die. There are also other things to consider like your home made "tank" will have all kinds of contaminates in it that you can not get rid of. You will end up breathing those in and suffering greatly for it. Put this idea out of your head.

  2. I suggest you put this project on the shelf and stick to swimming in your pool.  You run a good risk of drowning yourself otherwise.

SCUBA gear is very specialized and certified 10 ways to Sunday because it classifies as life support.  4 Folger's cans taped together may look a little bit like a SCUBA tank, but that's as far as it goes.

The air in a conventional SCUBA cylinder is pressurized to 3000PSI.  Water does not get into a SCUBA tank at all, nor should it.  The diver breaths from a regulator that controls air flow rate.  A straw is no replacement.

Now, all of this said - if you are at least 10 years old, and your parents agree, you can try out real SCUBA diving.  Go to http://www.PADI.com and use their search tool to find a dive shop near you.  Call and ask about Discover SCUBA.  For a small fee (maybe for free) you'll join a group of folks who get a short lesson and then get in the pool with real SCUBA diving gear and swim around for 30 or 45 minutes.  It's a lot of fun.
