Ideas for how the Rugby League Grand Finals are played.?

What are your thoughts on changing the venue of the GF? I wouldn't mind seeing a system when there is two teams left, the venue goes to who finished higher on the ladder in the regular season. Or possibly a best of 3 situation for the GF.

Anyone else think this would/would not work or have other ideas or prefer to leave the GF in Sydney.

  1. I think the Grand Final should stay in Sydney. Where it should be, but, oh, don't worry the NRL officials love Brisbane so it wont be a suprose if it's there in the near future.

  2. It's good that you're thinking about possible options but I don't think your suggestions would work. Re the idea of the GF venue going to the team who finished higher in the regular season, well if you mean by that the higher rated teams home ground, well then the home ground would be way too small in most cases for the crowd who would want to see the game. I would think that the only suitable grounds, size wise if you wanted to allow as many people as possible to see the game would be ANZ stadium in Sydney, or Suncorp ( Lang Park ) in Brisbane. I would rule out the Melbourne venues because I would think that other than the Melbourne based Storm supporters there wouldn't be too many others in attendance, can't see that any other league club would have too many Melbourne based supporters, and I'm not sure too many non RL Melbournites would attend, I think their attention would be on the AFL finals. A case could be made for Suncorp, if any of the Qld based teams were involved, then I'm sure the game would be a sell out. Re. the suggestion of a best of a three contest, idea works for non contact sports like Basketball, Cricket or Baseball but for a brutally tough contact sport like League I think you're asking too much of the players. Also, I think the fans wouldn't take to it, I think the average league follower would rather see the premiership decided in one game, not three spaced out over a period of probably three weeks.

  3. I think the GF is tied down to ANZ stadium till 2011 but im not to sure, but yes nothing there's worse than having 2 QLD teams play at ANZ. But only ANZ and the MCG are really adequate enough for an NRL grand final because of the size...i love Suncorp but it's too small.

  4. No, keep the GF in Sydney. It is the home of rugby league. Even when Brisbane and Melbourne played out the GF, they still had a good crowd.
