Question:

Ideas for inexpensive events?

I have been tasked by an account executive to organize an inexpensive event for a client. His car rental company wants to promote itself to the public through an event that would make people remember his business, something like a walkathon or a blood donation day etc.

Any good ideas?

P.S: I'm a public relations officer

Thanks in advance

  1. Hi,

I have a lot of experience marketing small companies online (I have 3 companies).  One of the best ways is to sign up at business directories and protals.  These are basically listings of businesses (simliar to the phone book).  The advantage is that these portals usually get a lot of traffic and they're ranked high on Google because of all the quality links they contain.

My favorite portal is called Directory Exclusive.  I signed up a few weeks ago because they're giving a away a free business card holder when a person enter's their company info.  I received it in the mail 3 days ago =)

I don't know if they still have that promotion, but you can try to get the free card holder here:

  3. Generally inexpensive means free.

As a PR person you already know that getting people to 'remember his business' isn't a one off thing. These kinds of stunts make good TV(i.e. Darren in Bewitched) but in real life really don't work or at best are short term.

What about doing a deal with a gas station where he pays down the cost of gas. You've seen these things where a radio station like 97whatever pays down the gas so its 97 cents. You have cars around the block and almost every TV station and radio station talk about it.

Have some auto promo item done up like a scented thingy that hangs from their mirror with his name on it. Give them out as they pull in. It can be anything.

    Good luck

  4. Hi,

There are many ways to market a small business on the web.  You can buy banner ads, text links, or use PPC.  However, the best way is to get listed in a bunch of portals. Portals and directories are like phone books, and they often provide a lot of traffic because they tend to rank high on Google.

This portal is giving away a free business card holder for lising your business (I got mine a few days ago in the mail).  If you want to know about some other portals, just let me know.

  5. walk a thon sounds like an ok idea.  I keep having ideas and then that "inexpensive" word pops into play.  Like a huge picnic, but then you have to feed everyone.  Like if you had games and giveaways and maybe a blood donation set up there.  Maybe face painting, games, a local band or two play there.  A beer tent with band can always make money at these events. I don't know what you mean by inexpensive,

can you edit in the budget you were given, maybe I could give more advice.
