Hi! I have a task to increase public awareness of the State of Illinois solution to the potential of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of adults with disabilities in home-like living situations.

I've got some ideas, but would like others. What would you recommend that would be a low cost, or even no cost, means of getting our message out to the general public? Any reasonable ideas, or ideas out of the box, would be welcome!

Thanks so much in advance for any and all ideas you can provide!

If you have contact information for a way of getting the word out, please send that as well!

  1. Get a free web site or web Page and set-up your Web-Site with every idea you are proposing and you can request (Donations) set up (Charity) Events. Also you can run Ads ion the Local News paper.

  2. I know this may be a little "out side the box" but perhaps at job fairs in colleges, disaster management seminars, posters or  flyers or the like in public bathrooms  Set up a booth at fairs, garden shows, home shows. Have info available at sporting events, post some flyers on the free bulliten boards in grocery stores, put flyers in  gas stations and convenience stores.  Post flyers in Goodwill stores and other thrift stores.  Where ever the general public flocks, put up flyers and info.  ER rooms too

  3. Speaker's Bureau -- having a group of people who can speak  regarding the signs of and solutions for abuse, neglect and exploitation of adults with disabililities, and offering these speakers to civic groups, communities of faith (churches, temples and mosques), and professional organizations for in-person presentations. Speakers could be state of Illinois employees or experts willing to donate their time.

Online Social Networking -- having profiles on MySpace, FaceBook, and other popular OSN sites, with regular updates about issues relating to the abuse, neglect, and exploitation of adults with disabilities in home-like living situations, regular encouragement for people to report such instances, what the signs of abuse, neglet or exploitation are, etc.

Web site links -- ask web sites relating to community services to link to your web site.

Podcasts and Webcasts by staff working on this initiative, available for free download from your web site or any OSN site.
