I'm planning on getting a flemish giant rabbit and would like to make a cage big enough for it to have plenty of room to move around while it's in the cage. I don't want to spend a lot of money but would like it to look decent and be sturdy and safe. Any suggestions?

  1. For a Flemish Giant, You shoud go to Home Depot, and buy wood, and chicken wire, and built a cage that will fit a small dog comfortably. Orrrr... You can look online, or diffrent pet stores and look for something big enough. I am having the same problem! haha!

    Good luck!

  2. A Cage for a Flemish Giant that would have to be big cage i would use this  http://www.petsmart.com/product/index.js... they sell covers to for 14 dollars maybe lay plastic or carbord on the bottom but you can buy a bottom to.

get a liter box to place in there a water bottle a food dish and some toys you have a decent looking cage/home that dosent cost alot safe for the animal and big enough for the animal to play in!!!!

This is the cover and u can get 2 one for the bottom.http://www.petsmart.com/product/zoom/ind...

  3. Well, for a Flemish Giant, you will want to build a cage that is about 4 foot wide by about 3 foot deep.  I wouldn't recommend building a cage any smaller than that for a breed that big, but at the same time the rabbit doesn't need a cage larger than that size either.  A Flemish Giant also due to its size will need a solid floor instead of a wire floor.  A Flemish Giant's body weight is just too heavy to keep it on a wire floor.  If it was kept on a wire floor it would likely get sore hocks on its feet.

I you are going to raise the cage up off the ground, you probably need to get some marine plywood for the flooring that will hold up when it gets wet with urine and you'll need to get some bedding like straw or wood shavings.  Don't set the rabbit right on your carpet like with some of those cages.  The rabbit will chew and eat up the carpet.  Unless the rabbit can be litterbox trained in its pen you are going to need bedding.

  4. I have the perfect solutions (by the way I LOVE flemmies!)

If you litterbox train him/her an x-pen is the way to go: http://www.sandiegorabbits.org/adoption/...

People have some really nice looking set ups so take a look. Flemmies are particularly easy to litterbox train, I have a friend who trained hers to use the dog door to go outside.
