Ideas for my bulletin board?

Every year, the teachers at my school are responsible for a bulletin board. The board must be changed (and student work) every month. I will have to do my first one next week when I go back to work. The September theme will be "welcome back to school" and I have 2nd graders this year. Do you have any ideas for a unique welcome back to school display? A cute welcome message?

I will be putting all of their names on the board as well. Thanks.

You could go simple and do a fall theme. I would do a big oak tree with red, yellow, brown, and orange leaves and put each childs name on a leaf. Before you put up the leaf have each child write something about themselves on the leaf!

It's hard to plan without knowing the students so keep it simple. Here's one idea: Cut out large letters that spell "Welcome Back to School" on white construction paper.  Have each student decorate a letter.  (Double up where needed.)  I would have them use markers to have bolder colors.   Either draw pictures of school supplies and activities OR completely fill each letter with an abstract designs using the school colors. A die cut shape of the school mascot or a school item (apple?) with the students names.

Another idea:  Cut out large feet and write "Stepping back into School (or school name).  Students decorate smaller feet with their names.

Themes for bulletin board:

Where have you been this summer? We put up postcards from all over the world and kids are invited to put a tack wherever they visited.

I have a respect tree since our theme is respect for our school in September. The tree is blank and kids write ways they show respect or have caught someone showing respect and write this on a leaf to pin onto the tree.
