I am throwing my sister her 21st birthday party. The theme is nautical/ sailboats. I have some stuff planned. Ex: invitations are done, gifts to partygoers done, everyone has to come dressed in white (dressy casual). But I need ideas for food, decorations, and entertainment. This is for a church group so please keep your ideas clean. I'm having trouble finding stuff that isn't luau/tiki related. Thank you!!

  1. stripes. anchors, blue, red, white and yellow

  2. Lobster "stuff", rope accents-white, sunglasses for all. songs from the sea. flip flops. try Oriental Trading Co.

  3. Jimmy Buffet or Bob Marley, Steel Band CD's? Find some old glass vases at a consignment shop, (large) go to Home Depot and buy a bag of sand, go by Michael's Craft store and buy tea lights and a bag of seashells. These will be your decorations.  Place about 2 inches of sand in bottom of vases, place some shells around  the perimeter, then tea light in center, light.  As far as food goes, buy some cantaloupe and some prosciutto. Cut melon into 1 inch squares, wrap with a small piece of the prosciutto, use toothpick to secure. Dip, buy two squares of cream cheese allow to come to room temperature, buy coctail sauce and 2 tins of crab meat, or small shrimp.  Spread cream cheese on a large plate (flatten out evenly), then layer on coctail sauce, then drain and spread crab or shrimp. Place crackers in a bowl next to it, people just dip and eat.  For entertainment or games, play bingo, but label it Beach Blanket bingo.

  4. Jimmy Buffett music, seashells, boat junk, beach sand. Serve grilled fish and shrimp

  5. you should have seagulls there xD ahaha lol. have fish nd chips to eat.. and some music you could play... thats navy song.. the one.. you  know.. In the navy.. we will sail the seven seas.. yeh lol. ahaha uhmm.. thats all i got sorry.

    Have Fun :D

  6. Do surf and turf for the menu.  Get an appetizer cookbook for fish to begin with.  Decorations-you could go to a party store and see what they have in cruise decorations or go to a scrapbooking store and get nautical themed paper and notions and make the invites, table placements.  What would be cool is find a Hobby Lobby near you and get plain white or blue plates and decorate the edge of the plates with shells or nautical themed notions or stickers.  Get anchor charms to decorate the glassess with.  Stick with craft and party stores for ideas.  I like the nautical theme you have going.  Try a costume store as well.  Rent a captains costume for the main host or hostess to greet all the guests in.  Have a captains table for the guest of honor (birthday girl).  Entertainment you could hire a marachi band or something that plays light perky music.  Try the fabrick store as well -you could take material and make a ship mast in the middle of the captains table or all of your tables.  Make nautical flags to hang around or use as table cloths on the tables.

    Good luck!

  7. I was about to say hire a sailor stripper and then I saw church group... Ok so other ideas, is there going to be alcohol? if so... there are some beautiful cocktails that have a nautical theme.

There are also heaps of birthday items that have an under the sea theme (especially for kids which could be quite funny)

You can hire sailboats (mini) and have them placed around the area.

Also I suggest you buy a captains hat for your sister (included in my sources)

If you are creative yourself you could paper mache up a anchor.

Have lots of blue and white streamers. with blue and silver glitter everywhere. I would also look into music with sea/ocean themes (there are literally heaps! especially enya stuff...Sail away sail away sail away...) Hmmm Food. Fish and Chips! Bounties from the ocean! prawn cutlets seafood fingers, (chips O Ahoys :P )

  9. As for food: If you'd like a cake, try using twizzlers for a colorful "boat rope" or masts. Try taking some of the "O" shaped butter cookies & using cookie icing to put red & white stripes on them as rescue rings. Anything with anchors / anchor shaped. Blue Punch.

As for decorations: lots of ropes, anchors, anything blue, red, or white. Those seem to be popular nautical colours. Sea shells are good, cheap decorations as well. Lantern lights are nice if it's a night party.

As for entertainment: If your group is into games, try the classic tug-o-war with a braided sailing rope.

  10. Sounds fun! I'd say use coconut, pineapple etc to make a great cake or cookies that taste tropical. You could shape a cake like a whale or other sea creatures...turtles, pretty fish etc. Use the ol' blender to make nonalchololic fruity drinks and put those little umbrellas in them!! If you're doing a dinner nothing beats shiskabobs...easy to prep ahead and get one of the guys to grill them...chicken, shrimp, bell peppers, onions and of course...more pineapple!

  11. 4 different themes come to mind, that might help you with decorations and mood:  1) yacht club (i.e. Balboa Bay Club in Newport Beach, Calif (nouveau riche);  2) Queen Mary (40's glamour cruising);  America's Cup ;  and Davey Jones' Locker....   You could serve Navy Grog as a punch for any of these ... for the first 2, you could serve parfaits in martini glasses ...  I'd stay with a "fish" food theme, so here are a few appetizer suggestions:

    1) 1 8-oz. softened cream cheese, with a jar of low-cost caviar spread on top...serve with crackers

    2)  SHRIMP DIP

       1 8-oz cream cheese, softened

        5 heaping TB. sour cream

        3 level T. mayonnaise

        3 crushed garlic cloves

        1/4 tsp. worchestershire sauce

        seasoned salt (2 good shakes)

        6 oz. small shrimp

        1/4 c. chopped green onions

        veggies for dipping

Blend first 6 ingredients in blender or food processor until very smooth.  Fold in shrimp and green onion.  Chill several hours before serving (with veggies)

    3)  HOT CRAB DIP

        8 oz. softened cream cheese

        1 T. milk

1 (6-1/2 oz) can flaked crab meat

        2 Tb. finely chopped onion

        1/2 tsp. cream style horseradish

1/4 tsp. salt & dash of pepper

        1/3 c. toasted sliced almonds

Crackers for dipping (triscuit are good)

Combine cream cheese & milk in food processor.  Add crab, onion, horseradish, salt & pepper; blend well.  Spoon into small casserole and sprinkle almonds on top.  Bake at 375 for 15 min (or until bubbly).  Serve hot with crackers
