  1. Club Sandwiches

Take four slices of bread and spread them with butter or margarine.

On the first slice place ham and some mustard. (Optional)

Place the second slice of bread on top of Ham, and cover with mashed egg, seasoned with S&P.

Place the third slice of bread on top of egg, and cover with de seeded tomato pieces, seasoned with S&P

Top with forth slice of bread, spread side down.

Cut crusts from the sides and cut into fingers.

If possible get a loaf of caterers sliced bread.

It is cut lengthways, instead of across, so you can make several at a time.

  2. Maybe some tacos, pizza, hot dogs, macaroni, pasta, kfc chicken, pie, cake [of course], and some brownies.

  3. I have three children and many many parties. I would have to say don't fret about the food. Children don't eat much. I had a fairy party for my four year old daughter with all these exotic sandwich fillings and guess what the fairy bread (bread buttered with 100s and 1000s on it ) and Vegemite was the biggies and cake!! The most success I have had is with cold water and juice. Then fruit fingers, fairy bread, jam bread or vegemite bread (In Australia we eat vegemite like most people eat Peanut butter) Maybe no peanut butter if there are allergies. Maybe a bowl of potatoes crisps and the cake of course. Children eat what they know. One year I paid this caterer and they served lemonade and coke ( Boy did the children get upset asking " Can we have water".) Then they served chicken nuggets, hot dogs, pies and sausage rolls where I was informed by several indignant 6 year olds " we don't eat this type of food at home'. What can I say I got left with plates of junk foodI well the dog liked it. So the most popular foods are the fruit, fairy bread and if you want, serve some salad - little children eat salad. What does your daughter like to eat? Last years party I had cucumber slices because my 5 year old likes cucumber and bowls of  salad and cheese cubes!

With so much emphasis on nutrition and obesity and eating healthy some mothers get upset at the typical party fair of sugar (Lemonade, lollies, lolly pops, chocolate and junk food like pies, sausage rolls, and chicken nuggets). I was told off by one mother

" Thanks for loading my child up with sugar and sending him  home to me!"

You could serve some vegetarian pizza and some chicken and lettuce sandwiches or salad rollups - they are popular. This year the food for my 8 year old will be salad wraps (chicken/salad, ham/salad, cheese/salad wraps, fruit, water, juice, the Birthday cake. For my 6 year old there will be cucumber slices, cheese cubes, potatoe chips, fruit bowls, dried raisins and apricots, fairy bread, a plate of mixed sandwiches, fairy bread and water and juice and... the cake.

I also shy away from lolly bags - for the fairy party I gave each child a pewter fairy in the bag, I gave the seven year olds a bage of goodies hich included a ball, a colouring in book, pencils and a whistle, this year will be a horse ornament for the 6 year old ( We are having a horse riding party) and the 8 year old a colouring in book and pencils and a ballon. Just because i got told off about the lollies and the sugar.

Good luck children's  parties are so much fun and very challenging!!

  4. i would say food like chicken nuggets/tenders, mini corn dogs, pizza, french fries, wraps (usually you can get a tray at the market), chips, some fruit and veggies to make it a little healthy.  I would just go with foods that are easily available and easy to eat.  Things that are not too messy considering all the children would be around 5 years of age.

  5. Foie gras. What's wrong with teaching your 5 year old some of the finer things in life? There's plenty of time to indulge in common food as the types you and others mentioned.

  6. Taco's , pizza  , burgers, pizza pops.  and other things kids like .

  7. We always found mini pies, parties and sausage rolls with sauce winners with kids. Small marinated chicken wings also good but messy. Mini hot dogs, small quiches & small pizza are great also. You want it to be simple and not too much fuss and bother with not too much cleaning up after little fingers either. Good Luck and enjoy
