My boyfriend is serving in Iraq and I'd like to plan a special dinner to celebrate his homecoming. Does anyone have a favorite recipe or recipes that would make dinner a very special event? Thank you for your help!

  1. God bless your man. Honestly? What does he like? That's the most romantic thing, Just cook what he like's. After serving your country, just a simple home cooked meal  by his girfrend will be so appreciated. I'm a c**p cook but my honey is very forgiving, He love's me for trying. Good luck.

  2. Veal Oscar:

1 bunch asparagus spears, ends trimmed

    1 pound king crab legs

    Water

    White wine

    Lemon slices

    1/2 cup flour

    1 teaspoon salt

    1/2 teaspoon black pepper

    6 veal cutlets, lightly pounded

    2 tablespoons butter, divided

    1 shallot, chopped

    1 tablespoon fresh tarragon, chopped

    1 tablespoon olive oil

Blanch asparagus tips in simmering water, drain and set aside. Poach crab legs in water, white wine and lemon slices for 5 minutes, then shell with a crab cracker and reserve.

In a shallow dish combine flour, salt and pepper; coat pieces of veal. In a saute pan over medium heat, melt 1 tablespoon of butter and fry cutlets 3 minutes each side until golden brown. Remove the veal to a warm platter. Using the same pan, melt remaining butter. Stir in shallots and tarragon. Add olive oil, asparagus and crab. Saute 2 minutes to warm.

To serve: place asparagus and crab on top of each cutlet. Drizzle each with Bearnaise Sauce, recipe follows. Serve hot.

VARIATION: May substitute chicken or turkey cutlets for veal.

    BEARNAISE SAUCE

    Recipe courtesy of Tyler Florence

    1/4 cup fresh tarragon, chopped

    2 shallots, minced

    1/4 cup champagne vinegar

    1/4 cup dry white wine

    3 egg yolks

    1 stick butter, melted

    Salt and pepper to taste

In a small saucepan, combine the tarragon, shallots, vinegar and wine over medium-high heat. Bring to a simmer and cook until reduced by half. Remove from heat and set aside.

Place a stainless steel bowl in a saucepan containing simmering water, or use a double boiler. Whisk the egg yolks until doubled in volume. Slowly add the melted butter, continue beating until sauce is thickened. Stir in reserved shallot reduction. Season with salt and pepper, set aside wrapped in a warm spot.

    Serve with Veal Oscar.

  3. It is not exactly romantic but biscuits and gravy.  He might appreciate a hearty home cooked meal.

    Here is my recipe:

1 1/2 pounds country style ground sausage

brown it in a skillet and remove the sausage when cooked leaving the grease in the skillet

add about 2 rounded tablespoons flour to the grease in the skillet

use more or less depending on the amount of grease left over you want to mix it so it makes a paste

brown the flour and grease just make sure you don't burn it

add 1 can evaporated milk 8 oz I think is the standard size make sure to mix it well

then add the same amount of regular milk and keep stirring until it thickens it can take quite a while sometimes so don't give up

when it is as think as you want it add the sausage back in and salt and pepper to taste

then put over what ever kind of biscuit's you like

Even if you do not cook this for your boyfriend please give it a try sometime it is awesome.

    Congratulations on the home coming.

  4. You don't mention what he likes. Personally, when mine got home? I made beef tips and gravy over white rice.

  5. Your man probably hasn't had a proper pork dish over there except MRI's. Do some thing nice that he likes with pork.

Pineapple marinaded pork chops with roast potatoes, parsnips and veggies he likes.

It is between you and him my dear, but a bottle of beer or wine would go down well me, if I was him.

  6. Chicken is a good idea for a special dinner. There are a huge variety of recipes and videos here . http://www.ifood.tv/network/chicken/reci...

I am sure you will find here just what your man would love. Enjoy your wonderful evening.
