  1. Plant Propagation

Selection of Crops and their relation with the environment

    Crop Rotation

    Harvesting

  2. Fruits and vegetables grow rapidly if the water that goes through the pipes with partly brass.

  3. Stick with something with only a few variables.

    Some examples are:

How long it takes seed to germinate at 3 different temperatures. You can use a small 6 or 12 volt light bulbs in a box under the soil. Or make a long narrow box with a few bulbs at one end and record the temperature at 3 or 4 points in the soil 5 or 6 times a day. Then record the height of the plant after 2 or 3 weeks. Use mung beans if you can find them as the grow very fast. Any pea or bean will work fine.

See how salt in the water effects growth after the plants are all up. Starting with sea water diluted by 50% with distilled water and then do that 2 or 3 more times making the salt weaker in each jar for each plot. Then record how plants grow when watered with each concentration of salt. A photographic record will be nice with this one. If you don't have sea water a good fish store can show you how to mix some up that will do.

If you use the same soil over and over for several crops you will really see some drastic change in the soil.

Growing crops in water with more salt in it is one of the most promising ways we have in the future for increasing farm output.

If you have access to light filters you could make up several plots to show how the various colors of light effect growth. Blocking Red and Near Infra Red will show the most dramatic changes.

If you are growing the plants under artificial lights setting up 4 or 5 plots with 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 hours under the lights will show a great deal of difference with most plants.

Just change one thing on several groups of the same plant from the same seed packet or at least packets bought from the same place at the same time. Plot the differences in a spreadsheet or draw the graphs out by hand. What ever works for you. If you try to do several things at once the results will not be very clear.

You can modify the genes of plants at your age with the tools you have. Just like we did before we had new methods. By cross breeding two varieties of plants together or exposing the pollen of one to Ultra Violet light before you fertilize the female part of the flower with the pollen. It's a longer project than you have time for this year and you need someone to show you how to collect pollen and fertilize flowers.

If I can be of any help email me a gcouger <at> science-info.net

    Good Luck

  4. genetically modified (GM) food / GM crops / GM seeds / Genetically engineered seeds and crops!

this is probably the biggest topic related to agriculture in the 21st century.

  5. Here is a website with a lot of great ideas for research projects:

  6. Try growing a plant like a tomato under different conditions, like one in regular soil, one with chemical fertilizer added, one with compost added, one with cow manure added, etc.

  7. Soil pH effect on Hydrangea flower's color (http://www.flowersbulbs.com/ql_hydrangea...
