  1. Preschool is not necessary for everyone, but it is a good idea if your child needs to develop their social skills or basic skills.  Now a days children are expected to know many basic skills before they enter kindergarten.  Some of hte basic skills would be: writing their name, knowing their abc's, and knowing how to count.  The other main difference between preschool and day care is the structure.  Preschool is set up to be more structured for children which can help get them ready for the school structure that they will encounter from kindergarten on.

  2. I would say if you have to put your child in any kind of day care a center would be the best for both you and your child.  Although preschool is not required as a precursor to kindergarten, it will not hurt for your child to get familiar with the school environment.  They are always learning through other children and pick up on a lot of the routine activities that most day cares offer that it will only benefit your child to attend a preschool with in a daycare.  Not to mention the socialization that your child will gain.  Working in a daycare, I can see the growth in the children from the begining of the year and the end of the year, they pick up so much and learn a lot, especially important aspects such as socializing with others as well as academic growth.

  3. Well I guess the first thing you can do is find out what is offered in your area and visit those programs.  What do you like the best?

Does your child need child care or is this for socialization purposes?  If you do not need child care I would suggest a 3 year old preschool program which usually meets 2 mornings or afternoons a week.

No, preschool is not necessary and your child can enter into Kindergarten without it but I recommend at least 1 year of preschool if possible.  There are many benefits to having your child enrolled in a quality preschool program.

Good luck in your decision making.

  4. I would definitely recommend to have a sitter come to your home and keep your schedule. With the money you will be paying, you should at least get some real "childcare".

Daycare centers are understaffed, overpopulated, have so many germs(Kids stay sick all the time-ask other moms who use daycare), provides little to no educational play/time, no 1 on 1 time, have too many conflicts of interest and are usually staffed by young teenage girls who have no children and know nothing about taking care of children.

I am sure several people will attack my answer, but I have been there, and experienced from inside and out. I worked in 2 different daycare centers and most parents would be appalled to know the things that go on behind closed doors. I have had terrible experiences with my own daughter in daycare. The care just isn't that great.

I suggest to search your family for a good candidate and then go to friends who you trust. If none available then put out an ad at your children's doctor office, dentist, MOPS meeting, church and set-up interviews and have a list of questions that you feel is important to you and your family. Interview each applicant and select the person who is best fit for the job. For the first couple of weeks I would drop in unexpectedly just to "check on" things. Have this person over for dinner before and after they begin caring for your children to see how they react with your children and also to see how your children react to them!

This way you know what your children are eating for lunch, they can still socialize and have interaction with other children(park, plays, libraries, MOPS, church, playdates) and you can request that your sitter read to them, play with them, put only educational shows on the television, let them color and so on. They are your children and you should be the one in charge of how they spend their day!!

Preschool is not necessary. In most states Kindergarten is not even required. The compulsory age is generally 6. You can teach them preschool at home if that is an option. Children stay so sick when confined in a room with 20 others who may be sick. The parents end up staying home from work so much and losing pay, but you still have to pay the daycare/preschool whether you attended that day or not.

    Good luck!!

  5. i don't think "preschool" is necessary for all kids..what is necessary is that they have socialization...an in home daycare that provides activities for preschool learning would be enough...good luck!

  6. i would look into child care in your area and ask to talk to some of the parents in the programs

i think they would be the best resource for you

since we don't know what programs you are considering our advice would be based on what we 'think' the program might be

parents typically love to talk to each other about this stuff

if the program isn't willing to help set this up for you, i think it's a good indicator that it's not a good program

do i think each child needs pre-school? no i don't

    i think that's a parents decision

  7. You can read things on this website that will help you choose a quality program.

Yes, preschool can make a huge difference in making sure your child is ready for school. Kindergarten teachers see the difference in children who have been in quality programs.
