Question:

Ideas for things Old New Borrowed and Blue?

To make a long story short, the weddings tomorrow and my mum is stuck last minuet getting the old new borrowed and blue things for the bride.

I said the dress is new, get her a blue garter, let her borrow the jewelry you wore for your wedding or talk to the brides mom about her jewelry and just tie a blue ribbon around the flowers. But of course my mum didn't like my suggestions so can anyone else help suggest some ideas for things to purchase on such short notice that aren't crazy expensive?

Oh and it needs to be things that my mum can give to the bride, not that the bride already has.

  1. I wore an old coin taped to my leg. I had a blue guarder. I had new shoes, and my coin was borrowed! Or you could give her a blue ring, or handkerchief, or something of that nature.

  2. I, too, think your ideas are good.  I used my dress, shoes, etc. as my "new".  I wore my deceased mother's engagement ring on my right hand as my something "old".  I borrowed a pair of pearl and diamond earrings from my sister for my something "borrowed".  I had two "blues": an antique handkerchief with blue embroidery that I held around the stems of the bouquet, and I wrote my vows on a blue index card.  A bride on Y!A said that she'd had her new name embroidered in blue thread into the hem of her dress.  I liked that idea, but there may not be time for you to do that.

  4. I like your ideas, in fact that's what I'm doing for my wedding. I'm wearing my great-grandmother's crystal necklace, my gown is new, my garter is blue, mother is loaning my a pair of earrings and a friend from England sent me a real sixpence. You could try:

    Something old:

A handkerchief from someone in her family.

    A brooch

    A family bible

    A pair of gloves

    Something new:

    Her gown

    Flowers

    Shoes

    Something barrowed.

    Jewelery

    gloves

Anything that she's using that you're going to want back.

    Something blue:

    Garter

    Flowers

Use either beads or rhinestones to put her initials on a piece of ribbon around her bouquet. Kinda like this: http://www.truebluebridal.com/store/Pers...

    Good luck!

  5. I think your ideas are great & I would tell your mom that usually the bride has her outfit & accessories pretty much chosen by this point, so if she goes and buys and spends a lot on new things for her, she may or may not use them!  Just a warning!

Any blue ribbon, lace, handkerchief, or brooch can be sewn or pinned into the lining of the dress easily.

Old is sometimes a handkerchief that she holds in her hand along with the bouquet, but it could also be an old coin.  There is an old custom of the bride having a penny or sixpence in her shoe for luck.

Sorry I wasn't more help; I thought your original ideas were good!
