Question:

Ideas for underwater themed craft?

I'm volunteering at a summer camp for grades k-4 at an urban community school. This week's theme is underwater and so far we've painted fish with sponges, made sea creatures out of tissue paper and toilet paper rolls, and made the Rainbow Fish from the Rainbow Fish Book with bingo markers and googley eyes. I was thinking about doing something with boats, not quite sure what.

all ideas are welcomed, the project should take about 25 minutes.

if you have nothing nice to say, don't respond to my question please.

  1. Try making a mermaid windchime

  2. I'm sorry, I can't think of anything off the top of my head, but here's a great site that might give you some ideas of where to start- and most of the ideas here usually use things you have on hand-

    Have fun and good luck!

  3. How about making paper mache and using balloons as the form and paste the paper mache half way up and let dry.  Then the next day pop the balloon and hopefully the shape holds up and then have them paint the boat or color with markers.  See who can make the best boat.

You could also make pretend fishing poles and put magnets on the end of the string.  Make some paper construction fish and clip on paper clips give each fish a number for points. And add points up to see who can catch the most points with their pole.

    hope this has helped somewhat.

  4. there are so many...um, using oil pastels on black construction paper is very bright and can look like stained glass...use an underwater scene theme, like octopus's garden? (play the song? paper boats (origami, like paper hats) can teach about other cultures...print a wish on your boat and float it out on the lake to be taken by the wind. take cigar boxes or other empty box and decorate and paint it..then put inside a theme like a shadow box...shells, rocks, little things that they find around. glue it all in like a magic theme box. paint the inside blues and greens like water and the outside like clouds and sky, etc. decoupage is great for this. also, make potato stamps with water themes (shells, starfish, fish shapes) and print with fabric paint on scarves or sarong type wraps.....paint foam visors from craft store with water themes, and glitter. or get basic flip flops and add decorations with hot glue or paint.
