Ideas on how to get cheaper airline tickets.?

My husband and I are planning on driving to Florida with our kids, but now with gas pricing and driving an SUV we are looking at flying. The issue is we have roughly $800 in the budget for gas and I would like to keep the airline tickets for 5 people at that price also, any ideas on how to go about that. I thought of going to priceline and "naming" my price.

  1. Have you considered converting your car to LPG?

it is leess then half the price of petrol and is defently cheaper then flying

  2. I'll be a first-time flier in July when I move to California from La. From what I've seen, Travelocity finds better fares than Priceline. Book early. Summer is peak travel season, so the closer we get to June and July, the more expensive flights will be. A month ago, a ticket to San Francisco was $189. Currently, I'm lucky if I can get $250.

Look at www.travelocity.com and compare to priceline.com. Look at unrestricted schedules--if you can spare a day or two, you may be able to find vastly different prices. For example, flying on a Tuesday-Thursday costs me almost $60 less than a weekend.
