Ideas on where the nightlife and beaches are in Mexico?

Question

So my husband and I have been to Cancun for the past 2yrs, before that we went to Puerta Vallerta. We love Cancun for the nightlife, snorkeling, and Mayan ruins, and relative safety; just looking to check out a new place this year. Would love to be in a downtown with a nightlife on the Caribbean sea and things to explore....any ideas of where to go?

just an idea:

why dont you try something totally new.

i drove from Douglas, AZ to Cabo San Lucas, then back north to Mexicali then to Guaymas then to Tepic then to Guadalajara then to Mexico City then to back home.

man mexico is so nice.  i stopped in a lot of small towns (especially in Baja California Sur).  border cities do no justice to what you can see and do in the rest of Mexico.

it does take a lot of time (we had the whole summer off) and money (gas, food and lodging) but it was an experience of a life time. we met lots of nice people (the poorer were so generous). we saw a cow give birth on the side of the road.we oh, we had a federalie take U.S. $20 from us (yes, it was bad...but an experience), we picked up a puppy in the middle of nowhere and gave it to some people in the next town. we got invited to a wedding and danced a spanish version of the achy braky heart. so much stuff....but a lot of fun.  i have stayed at resorts and they are fun too, but not life experiences like this trip was.  it changed us.
