Question:

Ideas to entertain the kids during school holidays?

It's the 1st week of school holidays. It has not stopped raining and is freezing cold, so my son has not been able to play outside in the backyard, which means he is stuck inside all the time and going crazy (and driving me crazy as well!!). Does anyone have any interesting ideas to keep a 5 year old boy entertained at home inside?

Thank you.

  1. what state are you in? Victoria is in their last week of holidays.

Have you been to the movies. Kung Fu Panda is a hit with kids.

There are museums, indoor pool, cooking.,board games, rug up and do a day trip, movie day with popcorn, make a indoor tent out of sheets and have a picnic in it

  2. A lot of good ideas but he probably needs other kids to play with.  Invite a friend over for a play date for a couple of hours and then take him to a friends for another day.  You mums can either stay and have coffee and chat or drop them off and have a couple of hours break.

  3. yes i can help u. U can play games with ur child. u can spend time with him

  4. Movies that would entertain kids!!

Once you play a good movie to kids, they'ii sit there from start to end!!

apart from that, you could try playdoh it will keep him stable for atleast sometime!!

and maybe computer games for kids!!

I remember when i was young, i get entertained so much by these stuff!! :)

    hope this helps:)

PS: i know little kids and even bigger ones love this website!

  5. Who says just because its cold you cant go outside?

    * Go ice-skating or roller-blading, indoors.

    *Go to the movies

*Put a tent in the backyard, or even inside and have a campout - i used to do this with my daughter &husband all the time when she was about 4 or 5. she loved it.

    *Make some cookies, brownies, Anything!

*Make something out of anything, cardboard cut outs, maybe a "mail box" for his room. you can write letters and put them in

    *Finger Painting

    *Go to the aquarium [indoors]

    *Play board games.

    I hope this helps &have fun :)

  6. If your up for it you could build an indoor cubby house with him. Using chairs, blankets, pillows even fairy lights and let him spend the night in there or something it will keep him busy four hours on end. Think...like the scene of the two little girls and there cubby house in the movie The Holiday. With Jude Law.

Or get him to help you out in the kitchen...like baking a cake or soemthing. Or help you cook his favorite meal.

You can get him to help pack his own special lunch with a sandwhich, juce box, packet of chips ect, and take him to the movies.

If somewhere theres an indoor playcenter with a cafe you can sit down and have a coffe while his off on the jumping castle and indoor play center for hours. (In Melbourne Australia theres one Called Rare Bears. Based in Camberwell and another in Eltham.) I dont know of anyothers, but im sure theres heaps around.

    have fun!!

  7. Burn a CD with songs that he choses then dance the day away! we also brought some paint and paper and painted leaves stones and sticks and stamped the paper with it, that can be done outside so no mess also try walking down to the park, or watching a Movie.

  8. There's plenty of website to entertain kids.  Try those popular cantoon characters like sesame street.  It helps to educate kids and at the same time keep them entertained.  Alternatively, there's also cartoon for download at youtube.

  9. Besides this great site has anyone looked at this one:  http://activitiesforschoolholidays.blogs... a girlfriend said she found it helpful last holidays.  I tend to just take them to the park.

  10. Well you can give him some arts and crafts, or take him out shopping or to a nice a place to eat for lunch. You can buy him a new toy to play with, or buy some board games you guys can play together.

  11. Hire some dvds and have some movie time under blankets. Get some scrap books for a few bucks and some cheap paints and do some painting. Play-doh is always great too. For computer time http://www.abc.net.au/children/ is a great kids website full of games for all ages of the young. If he gets too much and you want about ten mins of "me" time, try playing Sleeping Bears. Everybody (the bears) have to stay silent the longest, the first to make a noise loses. It's a bit cheeky but it's worked for me!
