Ideas to help excite/prepare and celebrate starting kindergarten?

My sone is starting Kdg in a few weeks. He is very nervous. I want to help him get excited about it but don't want to overdo it and cause more anxiety. Any ideas to help with the countdown?

I figured we will go out for ice cream after his first day but am looking for ideas for days leading up to it!

Make him feel like it's a playdate almost. Say things like, "Oh! Look at all of your new friends! What do you want to play with first?"

I remember my favorite part of Kindergarden was having my very own backpack and very own cubby/supplies/lunch ticket etc. Let him carry his own lunchbox and help pack it.

If he doesn't end up liking Kindergarden, don't get discouraged. He'll get into the routine soon and forget he ever wanted to stay home!
