Identify weaknesses and transform them into strengths
A person who only believes in acknowledging strengths always misses the opportunity of multiplying them. Every time a person identifies their weakness, they have the chance to transform them into strengths.
Different people have different weaknesses. Some fail to manage time properly and some get distracted too easily. Moreover, some people have problem of acting on emotions and some think too negatively about every aspect of life.
The problems themselves do not harm one’s personality. In fact, it is the lack of acknowledgement that can lead a person to complete negativity and loss. Therefore, acknowledging them gives a person an opportunity to get strong.
“Our strength grows out of our weaknesses,” Ralph Waldo Emerson, who was an American essayist, lecturer, and poet, said once.
Same thing happens with golf players around the world. Nick Watney, who emerged as one of the best players in the world in the past couple of years, had problems in playing shots with his wedge.
According to the 2010 stats, he needed to work really hard on his technique of playing wedge shots. He was a rising star. Yet, he was ranked outside the top-70 in different wedge distances.
Therefore, he had to work really hard and point out the real mistake he was making. When his technique was analyzed, it was found that he was no different than any ordinary player.
Every time he played the wedge shot, he took the club way behind his head and put his maximum effort to hit the ball strong to achieve the right distance. However, he went out of sync every time he played the stroke.
It is essential for a player to match the speed of the swing with the speed of the body. Therefore, a bigger swing while playing a wedge shot can never help a player in getting the right distance.
The key to success here is to have a short and more aggressive swing. Watney also did the same and practiced on the range using Phil Mickelson’s technique of placing towels after each 15 to 20 yards and tried to hit them in regulation.
The hard work paid him off when he ranked first on the PGA Tour for wedge shots within 100 yards at the end of the 2011 golf season.
He is now among the best players of the wedge shots in the world. It all happened because he recognized his weakness and took effective measures at the right time.
