Identifying Boilers?

Hi all,

Is there anywhere that I can find an idiots guide to identifying different bolier types?

The obvious difference beween:

Conventional

Combi

Condesing

System

Can anyone help or advise?

  1. Condensing boilers can be any of the types listed,they re-cycle flue gases and extract latent heat to work more efficiently.

    Conventional boilers are a more traditional type that only heat the water for heating and stored hot water in a cylinder/storage tank.The pump and motorised valves are fitted to the external pipework.Normally open vented,but can be a sealed system if the boiler is suitable.

    Combi boilers give instantaneous hot water and heating,there is no need for storage tanks,(sealed system).The pump is built in and zone valves are not normally req'd.

    System boilers have the pump built into them and can be installed without the use of a feed/expansion tank,(sealed system).External zone valves can be fitted to suit house lay out/demands.

    Sealed system means that the boilers water supply can come directly from water mains,the boiler or external pipework will incorporate several safety components to prevent pressure build up or pressure loss.
