Question:

Identifying a bug?

OK, I live in the UK, I've been finding these little fellas around my living/kitchen area - usually one a day, until today I found 10, all dead, to the back of my cooker hob so getting nervous!

At first i thought they were fleas but in close examination now see they are different. I have 2 cats, regularly flea treated, last treated 2 weeks ago.

They are 3 to 4mm long. Have what looks like a sucker at what i think is the front, and a smaller shorter one poking out the back.

They have 6 legs, in beetle formation (not all bunched together like a fleas legs are). Dark Brown, Smooth/shiny outer shell.

They are not as flat as a flea is, nor are they tear drop shaped- in other words, some of the dead ones are lying on their backs, whereas a dead flea is too flattened and can only lie on its side.

I took some pics but no idea how to load them up here. The look like a herd of tiny elephants or rhinos (and its not a rhinocerous beetle!! its tiny)

  1. I'm not good with bugs (and you can't load photos here), but maybe you can identify it from this site - it's got lots of pictures.  http://www.whatsthatbug.com

  2. Hope these are useful -
