Question:

Identifying a spider?

I found a spider once in the bathtub and twice in the sink that I found in our upstate New York home that I thought was a brown recluse. I'm not so sure now, but I wonder what it is.

1. It was fairly big; about the size of a large outdoor wolf spider, leg spread a little bigger than a quarter.

2. It had pretty big and recognizable palps

3. It had a pattern on it; I don't remember very well, but it might have been some kind of a black zig-zag on a tan body

4. It moved fast.

5. It was shaped like a wolf spider as well, none of that big bulky abdomen that gets dragged behind awkwardly like a black widow.

Any ideas?

  1. This is a good site for the brown recluse spider. It shows many of the things that are misidentified as it:

There are many different types of wolf spiders, so what you are seeing may actually be one. Without pictures, it is pretty hard to tell what it is.

  2. Ya know, hon?   Unless you have a photo, no one can tell you what it is of.  sorry.
