Identity Guard or Lifelock? Who here has Identity theft protection?

I've seen the numbers of people who were victims and I don't want to be one. I want to be protected, and I want protection for my family from people getting credit lines or cards in their names when it wasn't even them who requested the stuff.

  1. You don't really need it. Lifelock, or any of those other pay-for services, for that matter. You can get a security freeze put on your credit report: It can be lifted only by you, with a simple written request, and it makes it impossible to obtain a line of credit in your name, by making your credit report inaccessible to anyone, period. Go to ConsumersUnion.org for more info on that.

Any of the other services that Lifelock or of the rest of them provide can be done easily yourself. Most credit card companies offer one or more of these services to their users for free. Get a decent computer security setup, opt-out of free mail credit offers, confetti-shred any documents with your info on them that do come in the mail, and you'll be fine.

  2. go with lojack they are the best in the business.  They are the only ones that have the long term experience.
