Identity of The Stig finally revealed

Some say he only knows two facts about ducks, and they’re both wrong.

The Stig is part of the popular motor-show TopGear on the BBC, hosted by Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, and his identity has been kept a secret for some time. Many believed it was Michael Schumacher, but in typical TopGear fashion, they decided to make fun of the situation on one of their shows.

Yesterday there was no fun for the BBC, as the identity of The Stig was revealed when they lost a battle in court to get an injunction to stop him from publishing his autobiography, entitled “The Man in the White Suit.”

Famous for not having any clue about the outside world, The Stig drives the fastest cars in the world around the TopGear test-track.

The man in the white overalls and behind the mask is Ben Collins, a 35-year old racer. He raced in Formula Three, as well as Le Mans and the FIA British GT Series. He has also appeared as a stunt driver in the James Bond movie Quantum of Solace, acting as Daniel Craig’s stunt double. It has also been revealed he worked with the SAS, and passed on his driving skills to British troops.

The BBC didn’t want to reveal the identity of The Stig was as they felt it would spoil the enjoyment for viewers. Collins joined TopGear back in 2003 when the previous Stig was “killed off” after his identity was revealed as well.

Collins will no longer wear the white suit and helmet as he was axed from the show last night. A decision as to whether a new Stig will be introduced has, apparently, yet to be reached.

When asked to confirm the corporation chose to duck the issue.
