Identity theft help?

Have any of you been Identity thefted?

So, I made a rent agreement document with a man, he will rent me a room+bathroom for $300. We signed paper, he gave me the original, made copy, asked for deposit and 1st month rent, I paid. Then he asked for License number, I gave it to 'em. I called today, the phone said,"NSAC01 the mobile number you have called is no longer in service." I was wondering if he cheated me, home was never his, what can he do with my Drivers license number? I paid in checks. 2 checks. He cashed them same day, he had to put fingerprint, since, it seems he did not put a SS#, or Drivers license of himself on check. I saw them online, printed copy for myself.

At least I have 2 checks with a fingerprint. The lease I signed, he touched with his bare gloves. Only he and I touched them. So it only contains 2 fingerprints belonging to 2 different people. What else can I do and what do you recommend? Our agreement stated I move in this coming weekend, so I'm planning on waiting until Saturday, then driving 4hrs to where I am supposed to rent. I just wanted to get in contact with 'em before.

  1. Thats an Identity theft, it is. I hate people who did that. There is no way to track them easy, just still report it.

  2. For this amount, the cops will only go through the motions of doing something

I think you are going to have chalk this up as an expensive learning experience

Can you call the location and simply ask about the property?
