Got a few minutes? Rant and rave about the worst/best drivers, and tell me a bit about yer own driving habits...Don't be shy! I am seeking the truth as to why I seem to be the only competent driver on the road... :-) Thanks for your time, folks!

1. What bothers you the most about other drivers when you are behind the wheel?

2. Do you notice local, statewide, or regional differences between drivers? What do you think that those differences are?

3. What brand/model of vehicle do you currently drive?

4. What five words would best describe your personality?

5. What state do you reside in? What is the population of the town, city, or county that you reside in?

6. Do you think that you drive better than most people on the road?

I also have a blog at usatoday.com, posing the same questions, with additional assorted ramblings...

  1. 1. What bothers you the most about other drivers when you are behind the wheel?

Wow...a  lot of things, but lets go with, people that dont pay attention because they are texting, reading, trying to reach behind the back seat, putting on makeup, ect

People that dont use turn signals, people in old beat up cars that try and act cool by speeding and tailgating.  Minivans that do 100 MPH on the highway.

    2. Do you notice local, statewide, or regional differences between drivers? What do you think that those differences are?

Yes in New Jersey drivers are bad, in Florida the drivers are worse!  A lot of young bad drivers plus a lot of OLD bad drivers in not a good combination.

    3. What brand/model of vehicle do you currently drive?

a black Mustang GT, nice sounding exhaust, performance upgrades, tint, sound system, rims, pimped out.

    4. What five words would best describe your personality?

    funny, witty, different, pratical, fun

    5. What state do you reside in? What is the population of the town, city, or county that you reside in?

Tampa, FL, I think there are about 300,000 in Tampa, add another 200,000 across the bridge in St. Petersburg.

    6. Do you think that you drive better than most people on the road?

Yes, definetly. I have been driving for 8 years with no tickets or accidents, and in fact I have saved a couple of accidents because of my good driving.

  2. 1. It bothers me when other drivers cut in, are rude, or inconsiderate. It really bothers me when other drivers tailgate. If I had to stop suddenly, this tailgater wouldn't have any time to react and would probably hit me.

It bothers me when I see people driving in heavy moving traffic while talking on their cell phones because they are distracted and might miss something.

2 A) .I have driven in traffic in highly populated cities with freeways. These people know how to merge and get over to the right after passing (well, most of them do....lol)

I have driven in traffic in rural areas on gravel roads, where the local trucks and cars slow down to prevent loss of control or gravel damage in consideration of the other guy.

    B)  I have driven out on the bald prairie, where the roads are straight and all a driver needs to do is hit that accelerator and then brake if needed, but they don't take curves very well, and they also use cruise control a lot, which at times gets them into trouble when they inadvertently find themselves too close to another vehicle because they werent' paying attention on that very long and straight road (causes highway hypnosis).

    C)  I have driven in mountainous regions where people tend to develop good skills in handling curves and hills.

    D) But.......take any one of these people out of their element and into another driving environment and there could be problems. For instance, a prairie driver might not be aware that slowing down is quite necessary to negotiate a curve in a mountainous region. A person used to driving in mountainous regions might find themselves driving far too fast on long straight roads. A person who travels mosly on gravel and rural roads may have weak merging and lane changing skills when on busy highways.

    3. I currently drive a 2004 Toyota Corolla.

    4. Responsible, observant,  cautious, law-abiding, considerate, humorous,  (with a pinch of adventure thrown in)

    5. I have lived in 4 provinces in Canada. I have lived in Toronto, Ontario (high concentration of population, busy roads), Winnipeg, Manitoba (large city), in northern rural towns (angle parking on the main streets, and very unusual intersections and lacking in signs, etc.), Red Deer, Alberta, another city of approximately 100,000 and has grown swiftly since I moved there some 12 years ago (pop. was 50,000).

I have recently moved to rural British Columbia where I am once again learning to negotiate those many mountain curves and hills, including some 9 % inclines, both up and down hills.

Canada has a population of approximately 33,000,000 people. The U.S.A. has a population of approximately 333,000,000 which is ten times larger on average in terms of population, traffic, etc.

    6. I think I had BETTER be a better driver, because I teach Driver Education. I have to be very aware of what's happening out there in order to be at least one step ahead of my student and to protect him/her. All of these years of teaching proper skills and habits have formed very safe habits within me. I find that I read traffic very well because I am so observant, and tend to also predict behaviours of other drivers very well too. I leave lots of room around me and I am usually always on task (hey, Im human and at times my thoughts wander a bit too! [grin]. I'm far from perfect, but thus far I have survived every trip, short or long, without incident over my some 4,000,000 miles in the car.

I hope that answers your questions....

  3. The worst example of driving I've ever seen was in Montreal on a long elevated entrance ramp to a superhighway. A man in a large van got on an entrance ramp and changed his mind, he drove in reverse all the way back to the entrance. Keep in mind it was a single lane.

    1. Most drivers behind the wheel in the area I live in:

Do not use their turn signals.

Attempt to pass on the right side from the paved shoulder.

Hate waiting in a lineup and try to cut in.

    2. Quebec, Canada drivers speed at least 20 to 40 miles over the speed limit at all times, especially on the highways.

    3. Drive a Jeep

    4. Calm

    5. Quebec City, Canada,  upwards of 10,000 residents.

    5. I'm a safe driver, who does not take too many chances, never had an accident.

  4. Good question.  Got some time?  Get comfortable, this will be long, lol.

    1.  What bothers me the most is those who drive at a snail's pace.  I really can't figure out why it's so hard to keep up with traffic.  But what's worse than this is when people cut you off and then drive at a snail's pace.  Especialy when there was no one behind me and they could have waited 2.5 seconds until I pass and then get behind me.  Complete jerks.

    2.  I hate to sound snotty, but I consider any out-of-state drivers to drive like sh*t.  And this is because I am usually right about this, but occasionally proven wrong.  New York City is not an easy place to drive, and you should not even attempt if you are a crappy suburban driver.

    3.  Toyota Camry

    4.  Standoffish, sensitive, practical, humorous, and sarcastic.

    5.  NY, I don't know the population of NYC, but it's up there. Edit: Wikipedia says 8.2 million residents.

    6.  Yes, I definitely drive better than most people, I am arrogant about my driving skills and rightfully so!  There are too many S****y drivers out there, seriously, where do these people get their driver's licenses???  It's baffling.  And I am so passionate about this topic because I don't take lightly when someone tries to murder me with their monstrous vehicle on the road.  I'd say I'm such an awesome driver because I use a lot of common sense, which is not so common anymore.

    Thanks for listening!
