It's a stereo we had put in, not the original one.

cd's that are factory made work fine, but my burned ones play for about 45 seconds, then it gets all static-y, then within 15 more seconds it's super static-y, and finally it just shuts off. Like i said regular actual cd's work fine. but i don't want to buy those when half of the songs i have were bought on itunes, and the other half were from friends cd's that they paid for.

  1. The problem could be that the stereo doesn't play mp3 Cd's or whatever your using and the Ipod thing you are talking about could either be a tape that goes into cassette player or something that plugs into the back of the stereo to use the Ipod.

  2. Change the burnable discs you use. That should help. Buy high-quality ones.

  3. The Ipod thing is an Ipod radio adapter, you plug the wireless thing in and chose a station on it then pick the same station on the radio and it'll play it through the radio speakers. They're fairly common and can easily find them anywhere.

As for your CDs not working it might be because you have an older CD player. Sometimes they don't work together.

  4. I would bet that your stereo isn't very new and/or is fairly low quality. The static your hearing is the players attempt to make sense of data that it can't quite understand. Older stereos, although they "can" play burned cd's, tend to have problems with less than perfect disks. If the Cd's were left in the sun, have minute scratches, or are cheap to begin with, they will likely give an older stereo problems but may still play on a newer/higher quality deck or computer. A CD from the store is higher quality and will play more readily on any system. You could try burning a new cd to see if the quality is better, or may have to resort to buying Cd's, using an mp3 player like your friend, or getting a newer stereo that is has a good rating for burned cd playback compatibility.

The device your friend has is called an FM transmitter. It takes the sound from the I-pod and broadcasts it a short distance through the air in a radio format. You can then tune the radio to the station that it is broadcasting on and listen to what is being played without wires. They can be found at local electronics stores or on-line fairly inexpensively.
