son 9 w/adhd and i want to request him to be re-evaluated. He hasn't had a full eval since 2004. I want to know if anyone knows what specific tests i should ask for. He reads well, problems with math but I don't understand this new math either. He has problems with making sentances too.

  1. The IEP team should consider reevaluation at least every 3 years. It doesn't mean that they have to reevaluate, but they at least have to consider it. You can request a full evaluation from the school. You said your son is ADHD - is he placed under OHI (other health impaired) or does he have another disability - learning disability, etc.? An education evaluation would include an intelligence test (probably a brief one), an achievement test to find levels in reading, math, writing, listening comprehension and oral expression, and possibly behavior scales, adaptive scales, and maybe even a visual-motor integration test. If he is receiving special services now, I would talk to his teacher/case manager and express your desire for a full education reevaluation. They should have to comply with your request.

  2. If a child is ALREADY in special ed, the school is to do a 're evaluation' every THREE years,  AND can have this done EVERY YEAR  *IF* the parent AND school agrees to having this re eval done once a year.

If your child is IN special ed and had this testing done in 2004, then it is time, the 3 yrs have expired.

The school is suppose to automatically do this re evaluation every 3 yrs without parent requesting it. But since they haven't you need to request it.

  3. re evals are supposed to be done EVERY THREE years.  If not..the school is out of compliance...

  4. I don't know specifically which test to ask for, but the school psychologist should definitely know what to do when you request the reeval. Just make sure you tell them why you want him reevaluated, and ask them to tell you which tests will be done and for what reason.

  5. When you design the IEP make sure it says he should be tested every year. Things change, and without that in there the school does not have to be responsible for testing your child. you can take them to a private slp to get tested if you want to. you do not have to have it done in the school.
