Ieuan Lloyd claims Men’s 200m IM gold medal: Day three – 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games
Ieuan Lloyd of Wales claimed gold medal of the Men’s 200m Individual Medley (IM) on the final day of the 2011 Commonwealth Youth Games, which concluded on September 11, in Isle of Man.
The 18-year-old Lloyd dominated the Men’s four-lap event, by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 00.42 seconds for the gold medal. Lloyd occupied seventh fastest qualification spot in the preliminary rounds but the teenager made a stunning comeback in the
final round and sprinted his way to the top of the podium for gold medal.
The gold medallist was followed by Eugene Tee of Australia, who remained 1.50 seconds slower than him and stepped on the podium for silver medal by posting a time of 2 minutes and 01.92 seconds. In the meantime, 16-year-old Scottish swimmer, Mark Szaranek
earned third fastest spot of the event, as he remained only 1.10 seconds slower than Tee and clocked a time of 2 minutes and 03.02 seconds.
The fourth spot of the race was secured by Szaranek’s team-member, Craig Benson, who remained just 0.12 seconds behind his team-mate and settled as the fourth fastest swimmer of the event, by submitting a time of 2 minutes and 03.15 seconds. Benson was followed
by Zahir Gamiet of South Africa, who ended his swim in a fifth fastest time of 2 minutes and 05.28 seconds.
Moments later, Curtis Coulter of Northern Ireland attained sixth best spot of the event, as he remained almost four seconds slower than his preceding swimmer and posted a time of 2 minutes and 09.07 seconds. Coulter edged out his closest competitor, David
Godridge of England, as he was only 0.03 seconds slower than him on the finishing wall and reported a time of 2 minutes and 09.10 seconds. Joshua Lewis of Guernsey was the last swimmer of the back-stroke event, as he touched the finishing wall to produce a
time of 2 minutes and 10.74 seconds.
Furthermore, the winners were awarded medals and accolades for their beautiful swims in the 200m event after the session.
