Ive run into this wierd problem, and wondered if anyone has any ideas? To start, when i first boot up pc, i open task manager, and an instance of iexplore.exe is running, and using about 2,400 k memory usage. iexplore.exe not (explorer.exe) Well i can kill the task, and about a minute later, it starts up again, using same amount of resources. I tried killing all other tasks possible even explorer.exe, and it would not start back up while explorer.exe was not running. But when i ran explorer.exe, it came back? Ive done all sorts of virus, and trojan scans, and have found nothing. What could possibly be making this happen? Also Ive noticed that when Im idle using the internet, task manager shows that the network is being utilized anyway. Is this normal, or just some other wierd thing happening? Any ideas?

  1. All I can say is Windows sometimes gets stupid.

  2. iexplore.exe is the process of Internet Explorer. If you don't know why Internet Explorer would be starting up for no reason, you may have a virus that is loading off screen. To be safe, follow the steps below and see if it goes away:

I'll provide a few links for you at the end of this answer. Check these out by downloading them and scanning your system with them.

If all else fails and the virus cannot be deleted, use the last two links at the end of the answer. I will describe them down there...

    Good luck!

    -------TRY THESE!------------

http://lavasoft.com -- For AdAware, to find adware & spyware

http://kaspersky.com -- Download the trial of Kaspersky anti virus. Great and up to date definitions.

http://free.avg.com -- If you're looking for long term, and free protection, download AVG Free, or consider purchasing Kaspersky (above), for great long term protection.

    ---------If all else fails--------

    1) Download HijackThis -- http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/...

    2) Scan & Copy the log that HJT gives you

    3) Paste the log into a new topic on BleepingComputer.com -- http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f...

    4) Wait a few hours for someone to go over your log and provide you with steps to delete the virus.

Having a human go over the results works better, and is worth the wait.
