  1. if 1/4 is eaten. that means 3/4 is still there. If 2/5 is eaten of the 3/4 that remains that means 3/5 remains of that 3/4.

    3/4 x 3/5 = 9/20

    it's pie, not pai

    lot's of different answers here. the way you have it worded, it could mean two things. Do you mean eating 2/5 of what remained after I ate the 1/4 or do you mean 2/5 of a whole pie. I already did scenario 1. If you mean scenario 2, here...

    1 - 1/4 - 2/5 =

    20/20 - 5/20 - 8/20 = 7/20

  2. I'm just going to make this simple,The answer is  i believe it is 0.35

  3. 1/4 is eaten

    Remainder = 3/4

    (2/5) (3/4) = 3/10 is then eaten

    Total eaten is 1/4 + 3/10 = 5/20 + 6/20 = 11/20

    Remainder = 9/20

  4. im answering because like no one got the same answer so ill tell you the correct answer...

                1/4 + 2/5 = 5/20 + 8/20 = 20/20 - 13/30 = the answer is 7/20

                   7/20 IS the CORRECT answer.....................

  5. 1/4 + 2/5 + X = 1

    3/9 + X = 1

      X=1 - 3/9

      X= 9/9 - 3/9

      X = 6/9

    THEN THE REMAINING IS 6/9 THAT IS IF THE 2/5 IS EATEN FROM THE SAME BEGINNING UNIT AND NOT FROM THE REMAINING.

  6. 1 - 1/4 - 2/5

    = 20/20 - 5/20 - 8/20 = 7/20

  7. I think its 7/20

  8. "pie"

    a lot of strange answers for a simple problem, but because there is an ambiguity in the question.

    Two possibilities, I'll do both

    Case 1: "if 1/4 of a pie is eaten and later 2/5 (of the entire pie) is eaten, what is the remaining fraction?"

    1 - 1/4 - 2/5

    LCD

    20/20 - 5/20 - 8/20

    7/20 <<< ans1

    Case 2: "if 1/4 of a pie is eaten and later 2/5 (of the remainder) is eaten, what is the remaining fraction?"

    step 1, remove 1/4 and you get 3/4 of a pie left

    step 2, 2/5 of the remainder is 2/5 * 3/4 = 3/10 eaten from the whole

    step 3, get the total left

    1 - 1/4 - 3/10

    20/20 - 5/20 - 6/20

    9/20 <<< ans2

  9. 3/4 is left after you eat 1/4, right?

    So, (3/4) minus (2/5) would give you the remaining portion.

    If you do that on your calculator, you'd enter .75 - .4 and you'd get .35

    Or, in a fraction, 7/20

  10. 1/4+2/5

    5/20+8/20

    = 13/20

  11. First time there is 3/4 remaining

    Of the 3/4 remaining, 3/5 is left after the second round

    or 3/4 x 3/5 = 9/20  if you mean 2/5 of what was left over

    if you mean 2/5 of the original pie then

    what was eaten is 1/4 + 2/5   = 13/20

    which means that 7/20 remains
