If 2 different cells and place 1 in concentrated salt water and the other in pure water what would happen?

  1. Soccer Tease is right. The process of water leaving and entering the cells is called osmosis, the 'shrivelling up' of the cell in salt water is plasmolysis, and the expansion of the one in pure water is turgor. Trust me - I've just done coursework about it!


  2. The one you place in the salt water will shrivel up because all of the water will leave the cell.  The water is attracted to areas of high solute concentration.  The one in pure water would swell and eventually explode.  Because the cell in this case has a higher concentration of solutes, the water will rush to enter the cell and make it burst.

  3. Pure water does not conduct electricity .

    The cell in the salt water is probably dead and has enough corrosion u cannot save it.
