You need to find 150% of 8km to make the equivilant, so you divide it by 2 (4), and add them together (8km + 4km = 12km)

To all the calculator jockeys here: the data is only accurate to at most two digits, so the final result can also have *at most* two digits of accuracy. We're not impressed by all those extra decimals which mean absolutely nothing!

Besides that, the km:mi ratio is not exactly 8:5 anyway, in fact it is by definition 1.609344:1 - that's 1,609,344 millimeters in one mile, should you long for perfect (and pointless) accuracy.

The point of this problem is how to work with ratios, so 8/5 = x/7.5, solve for x = 7.5*(8/5) = 12, which happens to be exact if the other numbers are assumed to be exact. Adding perfect, real world accuracy only obscures the lesson.
