If A Child Commits An Adult Crime What Should Happen To Them???

If an adult woke up one morning and decided to kill someone, would you let them go home and tell them not to do it again?

Or would you tell them that it is ok be cause they did not understand the severity of the crime they have just commited?

Maybe you would just sentence them to doing community service for the rest of their life?

Possibly put them on house arrest?

Does there age make a big difference?

Does an 7-10 year old have more leeway then a 11-14 or 15-17?

What is your opinion on this subjuect?

  1. If a young child 6 or 7 killed someone, I think the parents should be held responsible. What the h**l are they teaching that kid?

  2. Do you think people just wake up one morning and think "Hmm... beautiful day out... i know, i'll kill someone!"

You are starting from a bad position.

  3. In your question its if a "child"  in your details its if an "adult" what do yu mean ?!?  and it depends on the serverity of the case that determines the punishment .....but w/e happens a child SHOULD NEVER be punished as an adult.

  4. There is never one answer for all circumstances.

Was it accidental, what were the circumstances surrounding the crime?

If we put into law that all minors committing heinous crimes, such as armed robbery, murder, or rapes should be charged as adults, then we would pave the way for many young people to be charged as adults who may have committed an act accidentally.

Ex:  A kid gets picked on in school, and fights a group of other boys, picks up a brick and hits one boy in the head and he dies as a result, could get the same punishment for the really bad kid whose always been in trouble, and kills someone purposely.

  5. If it's really bad, they could go to juvie. I think the best solution is counselling because the child may have emotional or psychological issues.

  6. they know what they did ,but if saying , we didn't know because of age is a why to get off and so is raping someone if you were on drugs or to old with a old age mind decease. pick a reason and you may get away with something.

  7. A crime is a crime. No matter what age we are, we know right from wrong. I think that people should NOT be let off easy because of their age. We live in a society of equality, so I believe that everyone should have the same punishment (jail) if they decide to commit a criminal offence.

  8. Depends mostly on their age.

  9. This is a hard one. Young children don't always comprehend their actions. How can you sentence a child to prison? How can you incarcerate a child with hardened adult criminals?

On the other hand, how can you let someone get away with rape or murder simply because they are 10 or 14?

So as a society, how do we ensure "justice" for all?

I guess I would start by removing the child from the family surroundings that failed to teach him morals/ethics and the difference between right & wrong. After that I would require 2 independent psychiatric evaluations to determine if the child knew what he was doing and understood the consequences of his actions.

If he did, regardless of age, I would have the child stand trial in front of a judge, not a jury. If the child is found guilty, I would sentence him to Juvenile Hall until he is 18 and then he finishes his sentence in Prison.

If the child did not understand the consequences of his actions, then I would have the judge permenently remove the child from his home and place him into the system for psychiatric evaluation and reconditioning therapy. I guess I would hope to mold this child into a productive member of society some day.

  10. I believe they should all be punished to the best of the court's ability for their age.

  11. Younger children should get more leeway.  By the time you are 11 or older, you know killing is wrong.  A 7 year old might not really understand death.  It would not be okay, ever.  To commit a murder even a 7 year old would have to have some anger management issues and other emotional problems, they would need therapy.  They should not get to just go home.  Age would make a difference.
