  1. AFL is a dumb sport...All they do is run up and down a d**n field...NRL all the way!

  2. I'm with you mate, i don't understand why they make the changes either. Something about the human race believeing that the world continues to move therefore the surroundings have to adapt, when in fact they would anyway without forced change. If the AFL left the game as it was we now wouldn't be seeing the negative tactics put in place over the last few years to negate attacking play

  3. lol hawks no way

cheer cheer the red and the whites....

  4. This is something I struggle to understand as well. The idea of rule changes is to make the game more interesting, though it can cause confusion, and in the past rule changes have spelled the end of some players' careers (case in point - Steven McKee).

Changing the rules of soccer (Association Football) is much more difficult, given that it requires the consensus of an entire world. Soccer is played in many countries where informing people of rule changes is difficult due to poor communications facilities or illiteracy. Also consider that, unlike Australia, many countries in our world are much more volatile. Confusion over a rule change may incite pre-existing tensions and could result in some ugly scenes.

  5. The times change every year. Hopefully this year HAWTHORN WILL MAKE THE EIGHT. GO THE HAWKS!!

  6. afl!god i have more excitement watching my lawn grow, soccer rules have change over the years ie goal post size, shoulder charge ,offside rule, kicking back to your own goalkeeper, handball interpritation,ps thank god for rugby league.

  7. because soccer is so boreing that it you change the rules you could nt do anything else to it watching grass grow is more better then watching soccer

  8. You're wrong, soccer rules DO change, but not as often.

In Australian Rules Football (it's not called AFL, that's just one of many leagues) the rules change slightly from year to year to make the game more exciting. As someone else has said, it's more difficult to change the rules in soccer as there are so many countries to get to agree.

The most recent rule change in soccer that I know of (and I'm not a keen follower) was the rule that disallowed a player to pass the ball back to the 'keeper where he could pick it up. Now if you pass the ball back the 'keeper has to kick it off the ground.

  9. They changed the rules this year deliberately to force more attacking play, and counter the flooded defense the swans used so effectively to win the flag last year, often with low scoring games.

As for Association Football never changing the rules, quite apart from transfer rules changing regularly, what about getting rid of the golden goal rule last year. Or the introduction of the golden goal rule in the first place about seven years ago. Goalkeepers were banned from picking up throw-ins, then there would be the banning of backpassing to the goalkeeper in about 1992, changing the offside rule from two defenders to one and the goalkeeper, changing a player from being offside, to only being offside if he was interfering with the passage of play, introducing the offside rule in the first place. The introduction of substitutions, changes to the number of substitutions, rules about goal celebrations being too excessive etc.... It actually happens quite regularly, as you can see, and happens in most sports.
