  1. we do. we have our army in Iraq right now, trying to protect our oil that is there.

  2. Because the United States started in the East. The current Midwest was once the West, until the United States expanded westward. The former West was then referred to as the Midwest.

  3. thats a good one

  4. well there is a literal mideast, it's just been broken up and called different things as there are distinct perceptual regions, ie its been broken up into the east, new england, parts of the south, mid atlantic, etc.

  5. as was said, we started from the East Coast....and what was the Northwest Territories became the Mid West as we expanded.....thats why the university "Northwestern" is in Chicago, not Seattle

  6. We do, but it's called the mid-Atlantic region.

  7. Maybe because when we first came here, we started in the east and expanded west.  As we expanded more and more west, we need a Midwest  to describe the areas first  explored, and the west to describe the new areas.

Eventually we reached the ocean and the surfer chicks, and we stopped. Nobody ever explored back eastward again  because... well... They didn't want to.
