...what would be the pros & cons in your opinion? If this did happen what other country would step up to bat to fill the so called "world policeman" position that America is currently straddled with? How would Americas image appear then to the anti American crowd?

  1. If the US pulled out of the UN... you mean if the US quit the UN Security Council and stopped all funding contributions for UN programs (UNICEF, UNDP, etc.)?

The USA leaving the Security Council would mean that it would lose all influence on where countries send peace keepers under the UN banner (including veto power), lose influence on what countries have economic sanctions imposed against them (including veto power for the recommendations of others, such as China and Russia), etc. That would greatly endanger US economic interests overseas, and there would be lesser reasons for other countries to care what the USA wanted.

If the US were to withdraw funding for UN programs -- well, per capita, the US gives far less to the UN compared to other countries, such as those in Scandinavia and several in Europe. Still, its funding is very important. When the US withheld funding from UNFPA, per a vicious lie it passed that the UNFPA supports forced abortions in China (they do NOT), it has a devastating effect on women's health in several parts of the world; UNFPA has numerous pregnancy support programs, which had to be greatly scaled back, leaving thousands and thousands of women with a life-time of health problems (such as Fistula). Were the US to stop further funding, more children would starve, more people would die, and more countries would collapse -- which would affect the stability of the US, economic and otherwise.

To those who are anti-USA, all of these acts would further contribute to their image of people in the USA as selfish, ignorant of world affairs, isolationist and naive.

As for the "world policeman" role, the US isn't "straddled" with such. The rest of the world would, for the most part, would be happy if the US would relinquish this role it assumed itself.

  2. The UN was created after WWII just like the League of Nations was created after WWI because there is a need for these types of organizations where every nation can come to the table.  Some international problems (and no the US cannot revert to isolationism without abandoning the global economy and watching the world turn to authoritarian powers) require international action and the legitimacy of a supranational organization like the UN.  In terms of being a world policeman, the US doesn't need to shoulder as much of the burden as it does but we cannot merely ignore the affairs of sovereign states when genocide is going on nor should one nation unilaterally take it upon itself to invade another.

  3. The UN has nothing to do with world police operations. It's merely a meeting place for the town bullies to assemble and fill their pockets with looted money  from the US, Japan, and Great Britain.

  4. The Germans are already becoming the world police

  5. pros

    1. we would not be bullying everyone else

    2. we would be our own sovereign country again

    3. our own people will begin to regain their sense of identity

    4. we woudl have a gold and silver standard back

    5. we would not have to bail out every country in the world

    6. we would have to learn to stand on our two feet and think for ourselves

    7. the size of government would shrink astronomically

    8. people would want to come here for the "american dream" again rather then all the free government handouts

    9. our tax burden would disappear

    cons

    1. we would be in a depression over night and it would take a full generation to recover

    2. our goods would not sell on the world market until we reestablish ourselves

World police - we only have this title because we placate to others and strive to bring "democracy" to them - if we left them alone we wouldnt have this problem and the other countries could fend for themselves.

I have nothing against helping another country that asks for our help - i have all sorts of stuff against us forcing our way of life on others when they dont ask for it

World police nothing - if we left the other countries alone all this time the world woudl be a better place then it is right now  - our downfall as a superpower came when we joined the UN and forced our way around the rest of the world

We dont need to get out of the UN to change the image of the US - we just need to stop bullying everyone else around

We need to get out of the UN to fix our economy and let the market take over like it should have done back in the 30's - but nnnooo - our government had to get involved and s***w it all up - they havent stopped since

  6. Their higher moral position on the international stage would end.  By the way - the name of the country is the United States.

  7. 1) The US won't. If we grow tired of the UN, we'll just turn it off. We won't leave. We have veto power. Think about it.

    2) We need to dissolve the UN and form a League of Democratic States. Only states with democratically elected leaders can join.

    3) What's wrong with US being world policeman? Would you prefer China in that role? Think on this long and hard.

    4) Who cares what the anti-American crowd think? I mean really. The mewings of jealous wannabes is not interesting, educational, or worth the time spent heeding them.
