Aussie Rules (imagining it broadening in South Africa and possibly NZ) can't still be called Australian Rules Football.

American football is Gridiron not 'American rules'.

Would it be called Mangroot or Oceaniaball, what?

  1. Aussie Rules is fine, makes it unique.

It seems as though the AFL are trying to make 'AFL' the name of the sport, with signs 'play AFL'

Looking at Sharna's reply it's working...

  2. I like AFL international

  3. keep it AFL for sure!

    mabue "AFL international"

cause its allways gonna be our game

    only a thought.

  4. It's got about as much chance of going international as the pope has of turning muslim!

  5. The game is already widely played in the USA (most states have a representative team & Metro League), Canada, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, South America, South Africa, many countries in Europe (including United Kingdom, Denmark, Germany, France, etc) and most countries in the Oceania region. It is called & accepted, as Australian Rules Football (or Aussie Rules) in all of those countries and is very popular.

In South Africa the locals also call it 'Footy Wild-The Game That Roars'.

Why change it. It was invented & nurtured here in Australia, and we should be proud of it.

It is not Mangroot. That is a different game invented by the indigenous Australians.

It is certainly NOT Oceaniaball, because none of the other countries in the region had anything to do with creating the game, so why give them credit.

International Rules is a mixture of Aussie Rules & Gaelic Football.

It will be, and should always be, Australian Rules Football forever!

(Also, Gridiron has never been called American Rules, only Football or Gridiron)

  6. It can still be called Aussie Rules, that's the name of the sport. Expanding it doesn't mean that it wasn't still created in Oz.  You would have to change the name of the league though, maybe it could be the South Pacific Football League.

  7. It is Australian Rules Football. AFL is the league, footy is the other word used.

    Nothing else.

    Nothing else.

    Nothing else.

    Australian Rules Football or Footy.

    Nothing else.

    Nothing else.

    Get it?

  8. International AFL?

    That's an oxymoron.

It could be called Mexican Rules, if you like
