  1. It wasn't a competition against Australia it's about improving and we're definitely on the upgrade. We're going to win more gold medals than we did at the last two Olympics and very probably we're going to win more than at any games for several decades. The only sport where we've bought success is in track cycling given that we spent millions on a national cycling centre in Manchester but it has turned out to be worth the investment.

  2. Really? I read a few articles stating that England needed to spend more money to train their athletes and that's why they don't get as much gold. I think they are a few articles in the Daily Mail that complain about lack of spending on training.

  3. Going into the next Olympics as host nation means that they will rightly or wrongly be able to justify their spending.  Australia has overachieved for so long per capita that its not really worthwhile making these kinds of comparisons.  Great Britain should be able to medal way more than us Aussies but have sucked at it in recent times.  Getting a home olympics is historically the best way to boost your medal tally.  I am sure that we won't let that one go for any longer than we have to.  FYI - in our neck of the woods its the Union Jack...

  4. The big spending is for 2012. I think the way they are doing this year is proof enough that it is working and come 2012, us Aussie better pull up our socks.

  5. Why is the Olympics such a big deal now?,

I mean China make their young population train 7 hours a day,

and now Britain have to spend a big some of cash to get their Olympic athletes near the likes of the USA.

If GB beats Australia I'd say big w*p, we have a population of 21 million com'on I'm proud of our team, and at least were only one country, look how good england do by themselves (without Scotland etc..) in the commonwealth games???

    Go Australia

  6. ask the poor people in each country and most will say no

  7. Is that why GB is doing so well this time? Threw some cash at the problem huh?

Well it seems to be working but not quite sure why GB would be so worried about Australia having more Olympic Champions. There are plenty of other countries.

  8. Yes, they are building for London 2012 where they will be a power in sport.

They are doing much better here than they predicted.

30 Gold medals for GB in 2012.

We (Australia) need to spend more money to compete with them.

  9. Remember the little union jack in the corner of the Australian flag? 1/4 of thier medals should be ours :)

  10. England is an insignificant country run by a Queen that may or may not be a prostitute.
