If Bombers got Cousins and Judd for 2008, Sheeds been asked to stay for one more? Would Hird have joined him?

I guess I see from responses to my question an expectation that teams are following a certain schema; eg, that Essendon is rebuilding and that Sheeds isn't expected to stay a premier coach for the length of time they wish for the next crop of Bombers. I am curious though, that the athletes themselves are starting to come ready to play the big game. I wonder therefore if responses regarding the coaches or the players capacity as some kind of measure of future success is becoming outdated. My resoning is; I think the AFL system is aiming for a streamlined, professional, elite and culturally ingrained form of entertainment and consequently the notion that players need to fit the 'old' schema is also becoming outdated. If a club can acquire coaches/players, that will shift their GF winning average to say four years, then if a club can play one year with Cousins, Judd, Hird mixed with the young fast talent, I think a few clubs would be climbing the walls in their sleep!

Chris Judd is aligned to Carlton and Cousins isn't a part of Matthew Knight's youth policy.

Hird said it was was his last year. And he might have trouble playing on next year.

Not if it meant prettyboy Hird had to share the limelight with those other guys. He couldnt cope...

The culture at Essendon would not in a million years see them buying Cousins or Judd. The bombers are more into cultivating young blood and indigenous players. This is the way that Essendon have always operated, and I don't see any changes to their historical methods.

Sheedy was becoming a bit of a nuisance, and according to senior players, playing his favourites.

Hird was an idol at Essendon, however his body could no longer take any more injuries.

Hird had moved on psychologically, and moved in another business direction.

Even though Sheeds is retiring and Hero Hirdy is stepping up to the position, for a nice price/yr.

Over Sheeds d**d body will it happen that they'll take Cousins and being the Man of the VFL that Sheeds is, he has given Judd not alot of financial incentive to join the Bombers.
