If CO2 is such an evil gas then why isn't beer and sodapop banned worldwide?

After all the bottles are made from the same plastic as water bottles and CO2 is released during manufacture and consumption. Curses on the houses of Coke and Pepsi!

  1. Once again for all the high school kids.... The CO2 in soda ,beer, and farts, all came from what is called a closed loop of CO2.  That's the CO2 that is constantly recycled by plants, and other natural processes.  The type of CO2 that is the cause of AGW, is from the 200 years of humans burning fossil fuels, such as coal, and oil. The very rapid increase in those gases ,has never been seen in Earth's history! Don't be as ignorant as one person who was sure that if you put pure CO2 in a sealed jar in the sunshine,it would 'heat' up till it was red hot.  That's not how CO2 effects the atmosphere.

So go ahead and drink your soda pop,or beer.  They have no effect on the concentrations of CO2 in the atmosphere.

  2. Because they don't make a significant change in global warming.  It's basic science.

CO2 released from them was extracted from the air a very short time ago.  It's completely different from burning fossil fuels and releasing massive amounts of CO2 the carbon cycle buried over many thousands of years.

The amount of energy used to produce the containers is fairly small, although no doubt there are opportunities for energy conservation in the factories involved.

CO2 isn't evil.  Making huge amounts of it by burning fossil fuels is.  Someday our children will curse us for having been so stupid.  Especially when we were warned by the best scientists in the world.

  3. And pellet or paintball gun cylinders! And breathing animals! And rocks! And oceans!

  4. You notice how the libs talk nonchalantly about banning cars and factories in their answer but I thought we were supposed to be able to listen to them and let them save us at very little cost.  It is more about politics and desparate powergrabs by  socialists with a sprinkling of science and a whole lot of arrogance and wild guesses thrown in.

  5. Anyone who believes our CO2 levels are dangerously high knows nothing about the science. If anything our CO2 levels are way too low. At the present levels, CO2 changes have no affect on the earth's temperature.

  6. The amount of CO2 in beer and soda's isn't enough to ban the drinks. Compared to all the CO2 cars and factories produce, it's nothing. Secondly, CO2 is not even that bad, only when there's way too much of it (like now). Other gasses are far worse. Methane, for example. This is created by cows, especially those who don't get the right food. So, instead of skipping soda's and all, better skip your burger.

  7. It's like there is this sound of somebody scraping the bottom of the barrel.  Weird.

Anyway, listen to Bob.  He's right.

  8. Listen, CO2 is an inescapable part of our lives.  Beer and sodapop release SMALL amounts of CO2 compared to the amount of CO2 released by automobiles, factories, aircraft and deforestation.  This CO2 released by beer and sodapop, in addition to living creatures, is quickly taken in by plants and bacteria, which expel oxygen in the process.  Also, oceans ABSORB CO2 more often than they expel it.  However, the processes that manufactured these drinks may have emitted large doses of CO2 into the air, contributing to the overall problem (the greenhouse effect).

  9. CO2 isn't an evil gas.

The Earth has a natural greenhouse effect. If our atmosphere completely lacked CO2, then global temperatures would be about 60ºF lower than they are now, and life as we know it today would not be possible.[1]

Mankind has enhanced this natural greenhouse effect by placing extra greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.
