Question:

If Cyprus is an EU country, why doesn't the EU support Cyprus in the so-called "cypriot question" problem?

You know that Turkey has occupied Cyprus in 1974. In 2004 Cyprus joins the EU and therefore its territory becomes officially territory of the EU. But today even the EU doesn't support it and undermines this problem. Turkey meddles in the affairs of Cyprus, nobody does anything to stop Turkey from meddling and awfully playing its games.

  1. Cyprus is split into two countries which are recognized by most of the world, except Greece and Turkey. How exactly would the EU deal with this problem? Invade Turkish Cyprus? Remember Turkey is also trying to gain access to the EU.

The boarder has been establish for many years now and although peace keepers are still on the boarder there is so little trouble that it remains a place that tourist visit on day trips.

  2. Because both countries who're involved are Turkey & Greace who're members of NATO.

  3. It takes two to fight and there are two sides to each story.  One fact is that Northern Cyprus voted to reunify with the South.  It was the south that didn't want to join the north.  You clearly have your position staked out in this argument.

  4. its politics.... the same reason why noone does anything to the united states after bombing afganistan, serbia, iraq, probably iran next dispite the United Nations voting against it, and the majority of the world voting against it for that matter.

its just a matter of who is stronger.....

at this point in time the EU and the UN is not strong enough politically to deny the united states...

remember the united states supports Turkey who holds a strategic position as far as the middle east is concerned... a stepping stone to more oil....

i seriously doubt there will be any solution in the near future and until the united states does not need turkeys alliance anylonger or the EU becomes stronger.

  5. Well before entering the EU, Cyprus was given a referendum on reunification plan.  Which the Cyprus state rejected and the North accepted.  The EU would have preferred a reunified Cyprus to enter but it would not prevent Cypriots in the south from enjoying the benefits of membership they worked hard to achieve.

The EU can only back diplomatic means of reunification, but its up to the Cypriots on both sides to decide how to proceed.
