  1. NO WAY!!!! football comes 1st in england, and always will do.

however we are proving to be pretty good at rugby, but that the english for you!

looking forward to a good win this weekend.

    Goooooooooooooo ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...

  2. i think it would on TV for a week or so, but not for long, football is like some sort of religion here

  3. i don't think so..because Rugby doesn't get much hype as Football.

  4. No Soccer Rules.!!!

    Springboks rule rugby.!!!

  5. Hi sorry to say, but i will never replace football as the most popular sport as long as club rugby stays the way it is.

I am a huge football fan but put club before country everytime and i havent watched a england football match since the last world cup! but i also havent missed a national rugby match since 2003 and have even started watching cricket since 2004.

but i have to say club football the week in week out stuff knocks the pants off club cricket rugby league and union.

  6. The answer to that question lies in the fact ,How many cars ,vans ,house windows pubs etc. have you seen adorned with flags and bunting like we see when the big soccer championships are on

  7. They didn't win, they lost so this question should now be declared invalid and sent off to cyber heaven

  8. No but come on South Africa

  9. What a dumbass question is this. Absolutely no.

    And wtf is soccer?!

  10. It's academic now, innit. Crying into my cocoa Sat evening, stayed in to watch it. Oh dear!.

  11. i think it already has, put a footballer on a rugby pitch and they would be screaming like a baby to come off, and you dont hear about rugby players wives showing themselves up or in the papers going shopping or even writing books, sorry am i going on, ok i will shut up now, but you know what i mean dont you. Alan.

  12. well we lost so it won't be. but i think maybe it deserves to be. they set a much better example then thoose nacy, soft, overpaid footballers.

  13. ha they might as well, let's face it , their soccer team sucks, and they will never win the FIFA world cup ever!! So assuming they won the rugby then it would be the sensible thing to do, BUT there is no way in h**l  that England will win on Sunday.

  14. Don't be daft. Football is the sport of the masses, and it has been since the Football Association first laid down rules. Rugby, historically, has been the sport of the upper class; you can tell by the level of violence involved.

And in case you hadn't noticed, all South Africa would have to do to win is damage the golden boy. Because if Johnny Wilkinson gets crocked, where are your points going to come from?

Admit it, South Africa are the better team, and anything other than a victory for the Springboks will be an upset. Or had you forgotten that thumping they gave you?

  15. soccer what is soccer this is not the usa its football !!!!!

rugby will always be popular with the higher class of this country whilst football has always been the working mans sport thats why its the nation sport

  16. i prefer rugby to football anyway!

  17. No one has said ENGLAND DID NOT WIN

  18. Absolutely no chance whatsoever.  You seem to forget that they won it four years ago and still no one really cares.  There'll be loads watching tomorrow, like me, who will use it as an excuse to celebrate if we win, but will then forget all about rugby for another 4 years.  I'll still follow the football week in and week out, though.  That's the difference. people watch the footy every week, even if it's a fairly meaningless game.  Most only watch the rugby when it's a massive event like the world cup final.

Hey, I just read a comment that said we didnt make the most of the last world cup win, but that's possibly because England played absolutely c**p after that win!  No one wants to watch losers.

  19. Certainly Yes!

    For about a week.

  20. It should do.

  21. Football (soccer) is the sport of the lower class and seeing as there are more lower class people in this country then that means it will remain the popular sport. Rugby is an upper middle class mans game for gentlmen.

  22. No, there will be an upswing in the popularity of rugby following Englands great showing in this world cup but Football is much more popular in the UK and will remain so even if England win, which i don't think they will unfortunately.

  23. Don't be daft!

  24. Unfortunately Rugby is seen very much as a ‘cult’ activity only nationally popular after the national team has won something, which isn’t fair at all. We only ever really see Rugby matches on television when Johnny Wilkinson is playing or England in a World Cup/Six nations, or on the odd Saturday afternoon (ITV or BBC2 can't remember which, use to show some games).

I’d credit Rugby higher than I do football, even though I’m not a fan of Rugby and a football supporter. Compare the two and Rugby has far more guts, spirit and passion and they don’t have to run the whole length of the pitch with their hand in the air before sliding on their backside to prove it.

It will be the same old whether England win tonight or not. A heighten frenzy surrounding Rugby for the next couple of months as seen in 2003 and then nothing, it’ll drop flat. If they don’t win, the period to the interest in Rugby will drop flat even quicker.

If England win it won’t replace football as the most ‘successful’ sport because beyond 1966 English football hasn’t had much success, Rugby will be in competition with Cricket for that honour and I don't know too much about cricket's successes.

  25. I seriously doubt it.

  26. well we now know that england haven't won the world cup but no rugby needs to many people to get started anywhere you have to go to a club for that and its usually to dangerous to play without a mouth guard football/ soccer just needs a ball and 2/4 posts for goals. simple.

  27. They didn't. Oh dear.

  28. No soccer is the number one sport in the world and in England, but when and if they do win the Rugby World Cup for a brief moment rugby will supplant soccer as the number one team sport.  Then after the honeymoon the status quo will revert back to normal.

  29. Get used to being two time losers

  30. England won the Rugby world cup last time but football (soccer) is still the most popular.

  31. It didn't happen when they won the last world cup so I don't seen why it would happen this time round. Football has a more well established fan base and has so for years so I don't think rugby will become more popular than football.
