Can you pay the remainder by the end of the semester?

Ex. If my tuition, dorm, fees, is $7,000 in all and Financial Aid is only 6,500, can I just pay the 500 by the end of the semester or do i have to have enough Financial Aid to go?

  1. Most schools want the uncovered balance before school even starts. Occasionally you'll find a school that will let you make payments, but they require it be paid off before you finish the semester.

  2. Each school sets their own F/A and Payment policy. You will need to speak with someone from your Bursar or Student Accounting department.

I know the University of South Alabama requires all tuition to be paid usually within the first week...here if you can't meet that requirement immediately you can usually get help from the (school's) credit union, they will open a line of credit for you.

    I hope this helps

  3. Ask the Registrar's Office if the entire amount is due at once, or if there are deferred payment options.

If Financial Aid plus your own funds are not enough, you can try to get a part time job, or a loan, or both.

  4. Typically, yes. Colleges are usually very flexible with repayment. You may also look at some institutional grants that are out there for just this sort of situation. Contact the financial aid office and the student services office and see what options are out there for you.
