I can see people saying Margarito is the real challenge or Cotto was overrated.

  1. Floyd will KO Cotto

  2. I still say he's (floyd) over rated...has a crappy disposition and personality..

  3. No matter what, mayweather ducked Margarito. I don't recall mayweather evr cleaning out a division. He just jumps around divisions picking out favorable matchups for himself. I cannot understand why anyone would actually like that little punk.

  4. I think that PBF beating Cotto will go a long way to define him at 147 lbs.

PBF has already shown that at 147 lbs he is more interested in $$$ and doesn't seem willing to participate in the real action at 147 lbs.  Sure....DLH and Hatton are good fights for the general public, but the fights did nothing to determine who is tops at 147.

Should PBF win or lose against Cotto, Margarito or Williams, (even lose all 3), it would do little to tarnish him.  He is not his COMPLETE best at 147, and I wouldn't have anything negative to say.  He had better power at lower weights.  Stepping in the ring with these guys is the key.  The statement that it makes....that he wants to clean house at 147....is loud enough.

As it stands, PBF is just not participating by not fighting legitimate 147 lbs'er.  I just do not see how anyone can say that PBF is the best P4P when it is in doubt if he is even the best welterweight.

When I was younger, I had the same issues with Ray Leonard.   That soon went away......by the time Leonard was 25, he had already fought legends and won decisively.  PBF is now 31 and he has not fought anyone of significance at THEIR peak or at their best.  If you want to be a legend, then beat legends in the ring.  Fighting an older DLH or an overblown Hatton does not cut it.

Bottom line.....PBF cleans up the welterweight division and there will be little that anyone can say about him.  That would make him the best fighter of this era for sure.

If he chooses to not accept the challenge, then he will be judged based on his fights at 140 lbs or less.  Sure...he did great, but who did he fight?

  5. There will always people who will make excuses every time Mayweather beats their prospect, if Mayweather beats Cotto (which I think will happen), then I think Mayweather can retire in peace, if Cotto beats Margarito (which is very very likely) then there would be no one else left to really bring against PBF, williams, quintana and Margarito are great but Mayweather is 30 something he can't risk fighting all these guys when he is past his physical prime, and honestly none of those guys will bring in enough money to attract his attention any way, so I think once he beats Cotto he will gain universal respect and will be remembered as a boxing great  ( he will probably be considered the greatest Junior welter weight of all time....sugar ray robinson is the greatest welter weight )

  6. I will give him credit for fighting a young lion. I am one of Mayweather's biggest critics but I would end my hatred if he fought one of the three I always mention: Cotto, Margarito, and Mosley.

  7. Your premise is wrong. IF Cotto beats Margo, he will fight PBF. If PBF Wins there will honestly be nothing left to prove. With that said, I believe the people who are saying that PBF is going to dominate Cotto either haven't seen Cotto fight or don't follow boxing at all. People here are comparing him to Ricky Hatton ?! Are you kidding me ? Hatton has nowhere near the jab that Cotto has and is an efficient boxer. Where Hatton just throws as many punches as he can and hopes to land one. Two totally different styles of fighting and not even in the same stratosphere as far as power. Floyd has never fought anyone with COTTO's Power ! Not One. When these two get it on it's going to be a good one! And it will eclipse the DLH-PBF fight for many reasons, but mainly one.

Everyone wants to see PBF lose and people will pay to watch the only fighter who could do it!

As I've said before, please don't say the speed of Floyd is too fast. I've seen power KO fast. And I've seen Fast outpoint Power. It's two different styles that will be fun to watch.

    Cotto wins by attrition! TKO

  8. The way Mayweather fights is the reason why people don't like him. Margarito will end up fighting Cotto. If that fight goes to a decision are late round stoppage, they wouldn't have enough to fight Mayweather. Coming off a hard fight and than fight Mayweather. You got to be crazy. I think PBF would call the winner of that fight out. Both guy's will be too beat up after that fight. I think Clottey would win over the winner of that fight. Clottey was suppose to get the winner out of Cintron and Margarito. Bob Arum would make him a promise of the winner. Margarito was promise that he will get Cotto. Bob Arum making all these promises and hope he can keep them. Mayweather will never get the respect because of the way he beats his opponents. Mayweather don't have to prove anything, he has already did that. If Mayweather was to lose, he will still go down as one of the great fighters. If was because of this skills. Ali and the other great fighters are in the hall of fame, not because of going undefeated but what they bring to the game.

  9. First off I'm not sure if Cotto will beat Margarito.  If Cotto manages to do that I think he will be in big trouble with Floyd.  Floyd is too fast and too talented for Cotto.  Floyd will beat Cotto all night long.  Floyd will win 10 rounds to 2.

  10. depending on how cotto loses would determine the rating he would get. if he gets murdered it will build floyd's mystique and not really effect cotto, because most believe that cotto will lose to mayweather any way. if he loses and it tis close, his stock will rise and a rematch will be made. if he wins by decision, his stock will soar. he knocks him out depending on how the fight was going before the knock out, he will be hailed as a king or someone who got lucky.

  11. He doesn't need to fight Margarito or cotto. He has already cemented his legacy on boxing. It would be cool for him to fight both of them and earn more respect

  12. Let me just say that I think Mayweather Jr is definitely among the best fighters of all time. He may not be the most exciting boxer to watch, at least to casual boxing fans, and he may be an annoying, whiney guy who whores himself out... but you have to admit he has mad skills.

That said, Cotto isn't anything to shake a stick at. He's a beast. He has demolished many great fighters, many of whom have given Mayweather a tough time. Margarito will be a challenge, but I doubt Cotto will fall to Margarito.

So back to Mayweather. He HAS to beat Cotto to solidify himself in the boxing pantheon. You taint your legacy when you don't fight a contender that could've posed a threat to you, even if you really could've beaten him. You can't leave the doubt out there. Just look at Rocky Marciano. He might've been undefeated, but a lot of us return to the old adage "You show me an undefeated fighter and I'll show you a weak division." The thing is that Mayweather isn't retiring. He is still fighting while leaving Cotto out there.

So what will I say about Mayweather if he beats Cotto? That he's one of the best of all time and that he has satisfied any doubts I have about him... and we can start debating whether he would've beaten all the greats in their prime.

  13. It will further establish his claim as the best of the decade.  But I think the real issue is how he wins it, that establishes his overall standing in history.  If he eeks out another close decision like he did against Castillo or De la Hoya I don't think it adds much - the best fighters of all-time were dominant...I think this is what keeps Floyd out of a lot of people's top tier.  I'd say his toughest opponents have been Castillo, who fought him very close, Zab, who gave him a lot of trouble early and was close throughout really, and De la Hoya, who got one of the 3 judges to pick him to win.  In those fights Floyd was neither spectacular nor dominant - he won for sure, but it wasn't Jones blowing out Toney, Ali KOing Foreman, Robinson outclassing LaMotta, or Duran imposing his will on Sugar Ray...

Its not just about winning at that level, for him to gain ground on his hopes of being considered an all-time great he's going to have to beat Cotto in spectacular fashion, its not enough to simply land enough to take 8 rounds and stay out of trouble.

  14. if he does and thats a big IF! the best in the world. But the truth is that floyd can not beat cotto . only margarito  has a chance, floyd would fall to a cotto body shot 3rd round and thats it !

  15. Floyd hasta take the winner of cotto margarito and if he wins ill finally respect him a lil

  16. I will say that hes the best and give him the credit he deserves, but as you said: IF HE BEATS Cotto.

  17. Well, first Cotto will have to get by Antonio Margarito, but if he does, and Floyd beats Cotto, then he will have nothing left to prove.  He is already the best pound for pound fighter on the planet whether people agree or not, and a win against Cotto would allow him to retire in peace without anybody saying "he ducked so and so" or "he was always afraid of so and so."  I agree with most that he should be fighting a true welterweight instead of the De La Hoya rematch, but the fact of the matter is that he is letting the fight with Cotto build up because he knows that if he waits a while longer, the fight will be all that much bigger and more winnable for him, and really, who is there that is not tied up at the moment?  Cotto and Margarito are fighting each other, Mosley is fighting Judah, Clottey is going to fight for a vacant belt soon, and everyone else is just not a big enough name for him to fight.  And you're right, with every guy that he beats, people are always finding ways of making excuses as to why the other guy lost instead of coming up with legitimate reasons as to why Floyd is ALWAYS the winner: after the first Jose Luis Castillo fight, everyone said that it was a robbery and a rematch should be made- well a rematch was made and Floyd beat him even more convincingly.  Before the Zab Judah fight, a lot of people were saying that Zab was faster and had all the tools to give Floyd his first loss- then afterwards everyone said that Zab didn't deserve the fight because he lost to Carlos Baldomir.  Before the Baldomir fight, everyone was saying that Baldomir would give him "his toughest test" and after Floyd shut him out, everyone started calling Baldomir a nobody again.  He beat De La Hoya and everyone came up with excuses as to why Oscar lost but not giving credit for Floyd outlanding him in punches, 207-122.  Before Hatton, a lot of people said that Hatton had the perfect pressure style to beat Floyd, and after Floyd dominated him and knocked him out, everyone went back to the excuse of "he's not fighting a true welterweight."  No matter what he does, it is never enough and there are always going to be those who criticize him, but if he beats Cotto (which I think he eventually will) then I don't think that he will have anything left to prove and he can go off into the sunset.  If people still complain afterwards, then they are just haters, and unfortunately haters will always be there as long as someone is more successful than them.

  18. I'm beginning to think that Floyd has fallen into the Larry Holmes purgatory of being a great fighter.  Ain't nothing he can do that will please people and earn respect.

Floyd could personally mow every one of his detractors lawns with a pair of blunt safety scissors they give elementary school kid...and those same detractors would react to one blade of missed grass as if it were the Hindenburg disaster.  Let's face it, folks are determined to find flaw in the man, and Floyd tweaks all these naysayers by flaunting his cash.

  19. I will have nothing more to say about Mayweather. I already consider him number one pound-for-pound and I also think he could outpoint Cotto in a 12 round fight. So, Mayweather beating Cotto would just simply prove my thoughts.

Anyway, before we can even discuss Cotto beating Mayweather or Mayweather beating Cotto, Cotto needs to get by Margarito first.

  20. WHEN FLOYD BEATS COTTO, people will make excuses for why he won the fight, and they will say it proves nothing. they will say he needs to beat margarito or maybe mosley who is fast like him or some other young upcoming fighter will come along and they'll all say "now thats the guy Floyd needs to fight."  Every fighter Floyd beat the public has made an excuse on why he won, they could never just say" he was right, he is better"Floyd will never ever get his due respect until he is long gone....if he didn't get it from defeating the numerous champions he's already devoured....he won't get it, and he knows this. Thats why he said"i won't let boxing retire me....i'm gonna retire from boxing." people won't be satified til he loses. No one like a boaster, or a cocky athlete but the bottom line is he backs it up. if peyton manning would have bragged during his superbowl run saying"you can't stop me, i'm the best" you couldn't say anything. if Jordan said it you couldn't say anything. if jeter had said it, you couldn't say anything....but they didn't so you loved them. Now comes a fighter that knows his worth, he's says "i'm the best, and i'm gonna beat everyone i fight" and he does it. so....you're mad at this. Now it becomes about proving him wrong...and thats it. in one of Floyd early fights the comentator said" you getting a chance to see one of the future greatest fighters of all time" and this was before he had 15 fights under his belt. Bottom line....Floyd will get nothing from defeating Cotto

  21. If he can convincingly beat Cotto, he will easily be in the Top 100 P4P alltime.

Honestly, if Floyd and Cotto fight there will be no one left to challenge Floyd.  Because, Cotto fighting Floyd will mean Cotto beat Margarito.  Williams right now isnt viewed as a serious threat, and still wouldnt be even if he avanged his loss to Quintana.  Quintana wouldnt be viewed as a serious threat even with another win over.  By the time Floyd finishes with Oscar and finishes a potential Cotto match Mosley is going to be that much older, plus figure in Cotto already beat Mosley.

Basically if Floyd beats Cotto, you can say he has cleaned out the 147 division, and is out of opponents.

  22. Mayweather has got it somewhat easy now. The two best are going to bombard each other and I think both of them will lose something in that war. If he defeats the winner well then I`ll have to acknowledge he`s the best welterweight out there today.

  23. i will say "hey floyd, nw that you convincingly ko'd another overrated opponent, lets go out and get a pint."  then floyd wil say "sure man, just let me go tie up my unicorn." and i'll say "ok" and go say goodbye to my rich supermodel wife.  then floyd and i will ride a magic carpet to mars and have a pint on the face with ronald reagan and aladdin.

then someone will pinch me and i will wake up.  then i will realize it was a dream because floyd will never, ever fight cotto.

  24. If Floyd has any sense, he will pull a Lennox Lewis, have the fight between Cotto and Margarito post poned, and go after Cotto NOW.

His gesture would show he is serious..and would leave a great back story to lead to the fight.

A better question would be to ask, what would they say of Cotto if he beat Mayweather?

  25. If Floyd beats Cotto.......it must be via split decision, and Cotto must have been very very boooored throughout the fight. He must have slept through some rounds, too.

  26. i would rethink my theory that Quintana, Williams, Mosley, margarito and Cintron could beat him
