Because both natural and human activities can alter the climate.

Lightening can cause forest fires.

Humans can cause forest fires.

Nature (e.g. solar, orbital, volcano, circulatory shifts) can affect the climate

Humans can affect the climate.

The Little Ice Age and Medieval Warm periods were both European events -- they were not global.  What is different now is that the average temperature world wide has increased.  That's a much different thing.

I seen on a television show that mentioned something about a super volcano. Maybe that's the problem.

we are in a different situation now, where the effects of human activity have swamped the natural cycles that caused the local effects you mention..

There have been natural climate changes before.  But the data clearly proves that THIS change is caused by us.

EVERY major scientific organization has issued an official statement that this is real, and mostly caused by us.  The National Academy of Sciences, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the American Institute of Physics, the American Chemical Society, the American Geophysical Union, the American Meteorological Association, etc.

"If the Earth came with an operating manual, the chapter on climate might begin with a caveat that the system has been adjusted at the factory for optimum comfort, so don't touch the dials."
